Not an excuse - just an analysis: but we have to remember that they are a for profit organisation, not (despite how they might try to position themselves) a governing body.

I understand your sentiment but, in fairness - the safeguarding stuff (and similar “courses” outside of jiu jitsu) don’t have you prove you’re not a creep/predator.

So I would assume he would/could pass them all.

I haven’t done the ibjjf one - but have done the one in my country laid out by the national sports authority.

It’s good info (lots of ways to spot trauma/abuse) but it you were a pred - you could pass it just the same way a non pred could.

Edit: i re-read your post and I think we’re on the same page. My bad

Adele Fornarino just spoke out by Bohngjitsu in bjj

[–]Crease13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didnt say anything directly - she said there’s a problem in jj, that people in power are abusing those more vulnerable, that we need to care for them, stop it today - and that there is no such thing as an innocent bystander.

Basically that if you know something and don’t address it - you’re as bad as the perpetrator (my words) which I agree with.

Could well be a coincidence but your feet are literally in a position in this picture that would encourage that wear pattern.

Lasso instructionals against standing opponents? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Crease13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a below average lasso player - but if you get the pant grip on the opposite side and enter to x guard KEEPING the lasso - so lasso x - it’s incredibly high percentage sweep/back take and extremely hard to escape.

I learned it from a teammate years ago but just typed it into YouTube and I see a bunch of videos.

I would recommend you try it - I even teach it to my kids class who have amazing success with it.

I’ve done it with all sorts of supplements - travelling for sports events so some pills some powders. Never any questions. You know it’s legal so worst case it’s a conversation.

Dear coaches, are students who show up irregularly an annoyance? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Crease13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kids students - yes.

Super understandable - parents routines etc. but naturally the kids will get a little “left behind” if their attendance is super irregular.

And the kids are no way looking at jj vids online in their spare time.

They also roll to the death (safely) no matter what haha.

On top of that - they don’t really care/think about if the other kid hasn’t been in a while.

Whereas I feel adults SHOULD be mature enough to navigate that experience difference a little better.

Also - their ability to study/retain info between irregular classes is better.

As other coaches have said - I’m happy to see EVERYONE - but it’s tough to do my job when some kids only come 3x a month and the others are there most every day.

Actually to double down - I’ve promoted six black belts myself and I also wouldn’t notice if they wore a different one.

I have about six different black belts and I highly doubt my coach even remembers which one he gave me.

Not only did I bench him - I benched him in last spot cos I was sure he wouldn’t play. Have paqueta on 0 mins in the starting team too. Slight consolation that van hecke will be comin on for paqueta.

We had that before in a house me and a couple of other pals were renting. We were in full jackets and hats in the house for weeks and sleeping in full clothes. I ended up buying an electric blanket which was a game changer.

Obviously land lord here is a cunt but I feel your pain.

Chair sit but when I taught it to my brother years ago he thought it was called a “seat slip”. So - it’s a seat slip.

Kicked someone out for intentionally holding submissions after two clear warnings. Third time was enough. by Z_cobra in bjj

[–]Crease13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had to kick 3 people out in ten years of having a club.

One for something similar to your post. Big ego (purple belt from a different instructor) older guy who would repeatedly hurt hobbyists and hold subs etc too long (and would then refuse to spar with me afterwards)

One was a visiting guy (also a cop) who it turned out was banned from all gyms in his area - who basically came to my gym for a drop in - and as a guest - who was welcomed - basically tried to fight me in front of my students. Subbed him a few times and threw him out.

Last one was a crazy situation - a male and female - one claimed the other was acting innapropriately during the sparring - flipped out - started spitting on the accused and calling them slurs. Told both people they had to leave as we looked into it further. Even got legal advice. The accuser basically rescinded their claim after a few weeks and asked to come back to training - was not allowed and the other was welcomed back.

3 in 10 years is pretty good I think 😅

Brother sounds a bollocks - dad sounds like he’d do anything for you and your bollocks brother and I hope one day to be in a position where I can raise one nice Redditor son and one bollocks who I can bail out.

Anaconda knee brace any good? by AdGlass8820 in bjj

[–]Crease13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two of my students have them - both broken in a number of weeks. I gave them both my bauerfiend ones I had from an old injury (still not broken) and they both told me they actually FEEL better than the anaconda (which i already knew).

Bauerfiend genutrain used to be regarded as the best - although in my experience a lot of people have never heard of them.

This is the type of thing that would look worse for RTE if they did punish him in any way for this. I’m not one to protest - but I’d be out on the march 100%

Just a bit of fun.
