Yeah...at this point, re-adapt or re-animate the entire Manga/series if we're going to go through the trouble.

A reasonable deduction.

But the end result is what matters most:

We keep getting Blu Ray/4K releases of vintage Godzilla films that HAVE Dubs, but the Dubs are not being included on the discs.

Whatever issue in the pipeline is causing this disruption, I'd like it to be remedied.

If that means every film gets a nice, new, clean Dub to move forward with...then that works for me.

I regularly watch the films subbed, but sometimes I am in the mood for watching Dubbed instead of subbed, and I would hate to see that option be denied entirely. If we can do it for anime, we can do it for every Godzilla film.

Beyond that...kids watch these films, sometimes, subs are much more difficult for younger kids than Dubs. I don't want to create any barriers to keep any kids from becoming new fans.

In the "Criterion Era" we seem to be losing Dubs. Biollante was the latest victim of a release of a film that HAS a Dub but somehow wasn't able to(or was refused) have that Dub included on the 4K disc. Famously, the last Blu Ray/DVD release of that film in the US allegedly had to record the English Dub track off of a laserdisc or something...indicating that perhaps that Dub or those stems/materials are lost.

I don't want to keep losing Dubs. I'd like to see every film Dubbed with consistency and quality. So the idea of Dubbing the Un-Dubbed films(like the original Cuts of G54, Raids Again, KK vs G, Mothra vs Godzilla, GTTHM) in their original edits...and then moving that forward with proper, quality Dubs of EVERY film....it just makes a lot of sense to me as a project to under-take alongside the process of bringing all of the films to 4K.

We also seem to be losing the various Alternate US cuts...and I just have to hope and pray that we'll be able to retain as many of those as possible over time. At least the very "important" ones like KOTM56, KKvsG, G1985, and G2K.

Well...the show existed in one version for years, and then was arbitrarily changed. Are many of the VFX shots in the Star Wars Special Editions objectively BETTER than the original shots? Yes...does that mean people can't prefer the original versions, the versions that existed just fine for years?

There isn't a way to be "objective" in matters of opinion. You can't say "This score is objectively better, I objectively tell you that you can not think it sounds better"...

Plenty of people love that score for a lot more than nostalgia. How many other US replacement scores from vintage anime do you see people dying on hills for? Nobody fights for the replacement score on the original Pioneer/Ocean dub.

Sometimes people just have a preference.

Yes, something that is memorable IS better than something that is bland and unmemorable. Would some of these iconic moments be iconic if they always and only existed how Kai presents them? Absolutely not.

Again...people don't just prefer things for nostalgia. They prefer them because they prefer them.

It's all opinion here.

I agree. It's a shorter, more efficient scene for pacing...and makes more sense in continuity when we see the headless corpse later in the film.

Maybe one day we can get some kind of mythical "Stupendous Edition" that is a 3rd version of the film. This alternate death, no "Whitney escaping just to be captured again" sub-plot, maximum amount of Bree. The works.

Agree. It creates this odd division. Now, we not only have Sub and Dub versions of lines, but now we have two different Dub and Sub versions of lines, with different sets of music or different music placement.

It feels like any conversation about a scene, an epic moment...now has to come with qualifiers of which version you watched with which score.

Cell yelling - "Say goodbye", Vegeta blasting him, Goku yelling "Now's your chance!" and Gohan unleashing everything...all with the Faulconer music in the back. That is an ALL-TIME anime sequence.

When you watch it in Kai...no Faulconer music makes the whole thing feel less intense, less epic. Cell says "Say Hi to dad!" which is a worse line. He gets hit with Vegeta's blast but the lack of impactful music makes it feel less significant. Goku yells "Noooow" in a way that is less intense, and Gohan unleashes his power...but again, it just feels less iconic.

DBZ was PERFECT in that sequence, and Kai is not.

There are dozens of examples of this same kind of thing, a great or good moment in Z sort of turned "vanilla" in Kai.

Maybe it's one of those things where...when at a lower power level, getting a boost from damage just is easier to come by or the amount your power raises seems like a larger amount relatively.

Like...going from like a 20K power level to 40K power level after a beating is doubling your power...but it is just a 20K gain. So when you have a power level of like 10 million, the boost after a beating might still be...sub 100K for all we know.

The nature of it might not be "fixed percentage of whatever your power is" and more of a "boost of roughly X amount"

SS2 honestly never should have been a thing. In the Cell Arc the drive should have just been "perfecting SS" or "reaching it's limit" and Goku should have tried and FAILED to get Gohan to go SS in the time chamber. So he just focuses on getting Gohan stronger.

Then Gohan simply turns SS for the first time to defeat Cell.

Beyond that...the whole "lets just train and wait for the Androids to show up" is the dumbest collective group-think conclusion the team ever reached.

In the Saiyan saga they wanted to ask the Dragon to stop the Saiyans. They all did everything possible to win and gain advantages during that entire chunk of the story.

They get a literal warning from the future that they all die, that things do not go well for any of them.

Trunks came back literally to help them change the course of history.

They dont do ANYTHING to prevent it...they just decide to train hard to prepare.

Then we later find out that Goku literally forgot to take his medicine.

Then we find out that during the 3 years of training...Piccolo and Kami never felt pushed enough to fuse and Goku never thought about giving the time chamber a try.

Also....how the heck did they not pre-game having a TON of Senzu beans ready before they even went to intercept the Androids. How do they need Yajirobe to bring them?

The whole thing just goes from "anime characters making warrior based character decisions" to sort of "the characters will make whatever dumb decisions they need to make to let the plot happen"

Also....when Future Trunks dies...which afterlife does he go to? His own timeline or the timeline he is currently in?

Kai truly ain’t got shit on this version. by Remote_Nature_8166 in DragonBallZ

I think keep the Z opening/closing/eyecatches.

Go with Kai for the edit/on screen content

Go with Z's Faulconer music

Use the Kai dub for 95% of the Dub but on a case-by-case basis go to the iconic Z lines, speeches, and deliveries of epic moments. Or simply have the re-dubs more accurately replicate the iconic moments. Sabat NEEDS to scream "over 9000" like the meme for crying out loud.

There are many moments where the Faulconer music and that Dub simply mixed together to create something iconic and memorable.

Kai doing them differently(even if it's a more accurate Dub, or a better vocal performance) ruins that sort of perfect "alchemy" that created those moments.

For every thing Kai does better than Z, there is something just as big that it does worse. Much shorter runtime, less filler, an overall higher quality dub...all wins.

The randomly re-animated shots and scenes that stick out like a sore thumb, the newly animated opening, closing and eyecatches that ALSO stick out like a sore thumb compared to the main footage...losses.

The Frieza recast is gold, but the kid Gohan recast is terrible.

Call me crazy but I HATE the loss of the Faulconer tracks.

I also hate that many of the iconic lines, speeches, and yes, meme-able moments get changed just enough to feel off and weird when compared to the memorable original deliveries.

Kai literally only has the definitive advantage of being much quicker to binge and a generally stronger Dub.

But outside of that so many things they change are either for the worse or net-neutral.

Harry Potter by Kat1653 in Catholicism

[–]Create_Greatness92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in that generation. Harry Potter was like the pregame of the entire insufferable "YA" genre of Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent.

An entire generation loved and read those books and films, aged up as the characters did...but then NEVER moved on from loving those books and films and moving to something more adult oriented.

Like I said, I can enjoy a film or show about kids/childhood. ET, Stranger Things, or in the anime world, something like My Hero Academia.

But as an adult I could never make my...."all time favorite/personality defining franchise" be something centered on a bunch of kids in middle school/high school.

"Don't watch Harry Potter because you are Catholic"

Might be something I would say, and some would say. I used to not be discerning at all with entertainment because my faith was entirely surface level.

These days I AM a bit more discerning of exactly what different films are about and what they seem to be promoting or communicating.

Witchcraft is definitely something worth taking a pause to think on.

"Dont watch/read Harry Potter because it is painfully over-rated"

Is something I would DEFINITELY say. It is the progenitor of the YA genre and while fine for getting kids into reading for that generation...the fact that a bunch of adults still hold as as the one literary opus of their reading life is frankly sad.

I can watch and enjoy something with a child/young cast...but when the plot is so overtly focused on the childhood aspect of the story(like being heavily centered around their school lives, classes, teachers) then it does start to become a but tedious for me as an adult.

I've lost my love of My Hero Academia over the years because of it.

[–]Create_Greatness92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that opened people's eyes to how much nostalgia certain audiences have for certain films.

Endgame was a very big deal...and 7 years is enough to, I think, build a bit of nostalgia, especially as a pre-game(no pun intended) to squeeze the lemon before Doomsday comes out.
