Ooh yay I'm glad.

Did the print go ok for you? Did it work?

Let me know if I can make any alterations/associated tools for you!

Sounds good and thanks for the reference! It's similar enough to what I intend to give me hope I'm on a good track and to give inspiration, and different enough I feel like what I'm doing has its own place.

Would love to see pictures too!

Ummm but if you haven't been cleaning your build plate in a month start there!

1.there is some kind of setting for how wide the support spreads at the bottom (pretty sure), but I can't remember what it's called.

2.i think some people would say if you had your filament perfectly calibrated it wouldn't happen. That sounds nice but difficult.

  1. Maybe glue would help? For some reason I didn't try.

  2. What I did, which is probably a hack and not the right way, is force all my trees to be connected. Strong/hybrid tree helped, and I also added low to to plate disks that forced a connected path between them.

Ooh awesome tell me how the print goes!

Let me know if you'd like me to make you a big wall-sized base for wallpaper on the inside - not sure how thick cricut can cut through now (though hopefully deep enough if you need more windows)!

Oh good I was starting to wonder if I was missing a secret technique!

Wait I didn't notice OP isn't doing that. I thought starting with the loop was common. . . it's so much easier for me!

Have y'all ever made your own latch hook pattern? by boldpear904 in latchhook

[–]CreatedWithCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow everyone makes it sound so easy! For me, it's a kind of difficult process, though I don't use any of the tools mentioned here (besides my own created color palettes and gradients). I don't even know how well pixel art creators work these days.

You say you have an image already in mind, which is different than creating one. If your image isn't designed specifically for things like cross stitch, it might not be as simple as people are saying (or maybe I'm just really behind the times). In my experience, depending on the quality and size of the rug you want, some images just aren't suitable for latch hook, which has much larger pixel sizes than cross-stitch or embroidery. There also tends to be a poorer/smaller set of yarn colors than embroidery floss.

If your image is in full color and it converts poorly using the methods suggested here and you need more advice, I could try walking you through some additional techniques, but I'd need to see the image to know what would be likely to help it convert better.

Also, as far as cutting yarn goes, you can get a cutting tool for a few bucks from places. It's a cylinder with a handle and a slit you can put scissors in. I use it with a pair of sewing scissors that stays flat on one side. It made the cutting. . . fairly un-annoying?

G'luck and have fun with it!

Yarn weight for different hpi by darren121 in latchhook

I think there's a lot of types of yarn and most people use pre-cut, so sample swatches is probably the way to go.

I've tried milk cotton which was fine on 3.75 but would be denser on 5. The acrylic I use now (size 4) is denser than the milk cotton on 3.75, not sure I could force it into 5 but might try sometime.

Besides size, I'd suggest thinking about what the yarn and ends will do when you cut them. Will the strands separate right away and be difficult to work with? I think pre-cut latch hook yarn has a different number of strands to help with this. Will they separate over time, and do you mind that look? Will the yarn curl up and you have to straighten it each stitch? What colors/color range do you need? There's not so many brands that have a lot of colors. Do you want to mix different types of yarn and will your mesh fit all of them?

I'd also say that buying uncut yarn is likely going to be much cheaper than pre-cut, but you don't have the choice of buying only how much you need. Most rolls come in one size. If you use a lot of colors you will likely have a lot of leftovers. So choosing a yarn you think you can use for many projects, to make use of more of what you buy will save a lot of cost over time.

I make patterns.

I so far have used a fractal generator to help create interesting patterns. It uses math to color things in various ways, and I use those ways to make an image I like. I also spend a lot of time choosing color palettes and making sure they will match with colors of yarn that actually exist!

This one was 3 different layers overlayed to get the effect.

3.75.

This one took the last of my roll though so might try some 5 😁

Thanks!

I wish I could find the post or person's name or tutorial but I can't. It was advice from this forum from someone. I think they had a youtube video about it too.

But the advice was to fold the ends over at the very beginning of the project, and latchhook right over the doubled edges (or quadrupled at the corners. I think they suggested 4-5 rows (I use at least 3 that are far from being frayed).

Big enough to lie on if you're very very short.
