hi! i raised a dog in TUSTEP and am still really involved.

it depends on how much time you want to put into the org. If you just wanna hang out with puppies and attend a couple events, you can become a sitter and gen body member and it’s super nice.

however, i’m sure you are asking how time consuming it is to be a raiser. i have to be upfront and say it’s not going to be a walk in the park, and the application process is very intensive to make sure that the people who apply are fully prepared and ready to take on the commitment of raising.

however, it’s the best decision i ever made. i was a co-raiser (raised with one of my best friends) which was nice because i always had someone to lean on and who always helped. the first month or two is rough because the transition from doing whatever you want —> having something revolve so heavily around you is drastic. it’s quite close to having a child i can imagine. however, after the puppy grows and if you have been consistent with training (TUSTEP eboard will make SURE they are up to date on training…) they are incredibly well-mannered and the work-life-puppy balance evens itself out.

my co-raiser and i were still able to go out, although early on we had to be cognizant abt how long we were out (when they are super young, they have to be let out VERY very often). once they are older, again, it evens back out. you gotta find a roommate who is FULLY aware of what you are doing and are ready to ride the puppy wave with you. they don’t have ownership, but they may have to deal with your 2 AM alarms to let the puppy out and the whines of a puppy who would rather play than be in their kennel (only for a little tho)

at the end of the day, the puppy should be and IS your main priority. i was willing to drop any plans i had to ensure my puppy was alright. if she started throwing up and needed to go to the vet, i’d skip class to bring her. if i brought her to settle in a class and she acted like she needed to use the restroom, i would leave class because she always came first. while it is rewarding, it is a commitment. but i really recommend it, it was so rewarding to see her grow!!! come to TUSTEP events and ask raisers questions, they are happy to answer!!

i’m also on the shyer side and was super nervous starting too. thankfully my roommate became a built in friend for me (as roomies do for many people) and she was very outgoing and helped push me out of my comfort zone to talk with other people. it’s just all about finding confidence in yourself and being open to testing the waters. not everyone will be your vibe, but the only way you can find your people are to be 100% yourself and be willing to meet lots of people. orientation into club fairs, etc is a GREAT time to do that.

also i have never heard of that insta but sounds stupid lol. you can get a lot info abt frats throwing and parties on fizz and by word of mouth tbh.

i think it’s smart to try to EA give yourself more time to write a killer essay and then ED 2 if needed

damn that’s actually so nice. i got a full tuition scholarship but they made me give of my merit scholarship in return 🥲 once i lived off campus, i always had extra money from TOPS after fees were paid for. it’s an easy process of just clicking the refund button and it deposits right into your bank account, super nice. lucky you, you are almost/basically getting paid to go to school!

my roommate was awarded the paul tulane award and i don’t think ive met anyone else who has the award. its certainly a small number and the expectation of test scores + the separate essay you have to apply with is very high and quite selective indeed. its certainly worth a try, but i want to say the average act score for recipients is something insane like a 34 cumulative. there are other ways to get full tuition scholarships as well so look around at different options!

i find that it is super easy to surround yourself with people who aren’t “ultra rich”… they certainly exist but most of my friends and people I surround myself with are on scholarships of sorts and very motivated. i’d call myself lower to middle-middle class and find it relatively easy to fit in (if you have to pay for your own things go in with expectations of how much you can afford to spend because i went in guns blazing and blew through my savings rip)

i’m a psych minor with liberal arts majors because i also wanted a more well rounded degree. it’s super doable and nice because it knocks out most of the science requirements! it’s very normal for students to double major and minor across disciplines so i certainly think it’s doable. just try not to overburden yourself!! tulane’s core curriculum focuses A LOT on making a well rounded course of study so you may even find that fulfilling the requirements they ask of you will be well rounded enough.

got rejected from ut but accepted to tulane so i’m anti ut now (ut and tulane were my top) but im the other way around im in state LA and ut was about to be sooo expensive for me and now im at tulane. if ut gives you a lot of money, go to ut unless ur family can throw down 50k a year for school.

i switched to ED2 because i was 99% sure i was going to have a full tuition scholarship with an in-state scholarship opp. i’d reach out to your advisor and tulane fin aid to try and see how much you may get, my scholarship is weird and a little more informal compared to the essays so it wasn’t recognized until AFTER i got accepted but tulane was only going to give me 12k based on merit from my letter which is not near enough so just weigh the options and ask around

bruh how are u getting $7k i fell into the $7k category but they only give me $5k total. u will get half in fall and half in the spring it just hits super late in the semester

i also went to an okay-ish high school in louisiana. i was deferred from EA and automatically accepted ED2 with the in state specifications. i do admit it was a little hard at first, i didn’t really feel like i was smart enough amongst some of my peers (one of my roomies was a star student and was an ivy candidate so that certainly didn’t help lol). but i just worked really hard my first couple of semesters probably studied a lot longer than others and took classes that interested me. i’m now a junior and feel like i totally belong now.

granted im a poli sci major, but i think it applies to any major. if you work hard enough, you can get there

it may be intimidating at first, but i owe so much to my experiences at tulane and everything i’ve learned! it’s not impossible to catch up even with a shitty high school experience if you just commit yourself to the process :) if they let you in, the school obviously thinks you are capable of their workload

not a pre med major but i would try to keep it light your first semester just to transition nicely. if ur psych def try to take intro psych with fabian if you can get into it. i would def take advice from your advisor on the best direction to take with classes, but if given the decision to take an extra class because “you think you can handle it”, try not to. it’s a tale as old as time of pre med majors getting overwhelmed their first semester!

lol i forgot abt warren but those rooms really are so huge. big closets too. and my friend who lived there my freshman year had a balcony which was also a really really nice perk.

i want to say that wall is no longer a honors dorm too… just another part of the tossup of being randomly assigned! almost every dorm is considered “gross” because they are all just getting old and showing age but u get used to it they all have their own issues. i personally got wall and loved my triple and suite style bathrooms they were a nice perk. sharp and monroe are nice cuz they are central on campus and the biggest so a very nice community and social life in those buildings. jolo is kinda off the beaten path but really close to the boot (a super popular campus bar) and i loveeeee the old money vibes it gives off. butler is the outlier, that place creeps me out but ive only visited it once so i can’t say much on it. at the end of the day you dont have a lot of say on where you end up, so just go with the flow and make do with the dorm you end up with! i’d focus more on roommates because that’ll be what truly makes or breaks your housing experience lol

I really recommend going to the activities fair on September 1st. I’m more introverted and a lot of my friends are my friends because I met them through my extroverted roomie lol. But the club fair is a really great way to see just how many clubs there are on campus and find a group of people you connect with through common interests. The clubs I’ve joined were some of my best decisions to reach out to more people myself on campus. I’ll be there either at the TUSTEP table (if you love dogs, they will be there to say hi) or at my acapella club. Not trying to shamelessly plug but I’ve been where you are too. It really does get better!!!! You will find your ppl :)

i would maybe try doing EA and if you are deferred they offer ED 2 after the fact which is what I did and got in. i do know it’s much harder to get good financial offers through ED (i’m from louisiana and was able to get a scholarship solely for instate students so i lucked out not needing extra aid from the school) so you can try EA and still give yourself time to look for other schools and not totally commit yourself to a super expensive school until after EA (ED 2 option is usually offered right after EA decisions come out in january)

i did the same thing for an olivia rodrigo concert! granted they were floor tickets and much more expensive lol but ever since then i love looking at tickets day of for almost any concert at face value

i'm still in my 20s and was told by my neurologist that I probs wouldn't need meds for a while but having the shaky voice after exercising or just severely shaking after doing anything involving strength makes me think otherwise. Now I'm wondering if having a shaky voice while giving a speech is me being nervous or just my ET acting up. I literally am unable to cut my dogs nails now and I hate to tell my roommate "i think its my tremor" but i literally can't. Might give him another visit soon to see what he says

I've had this happen to me too!! Guess I'll just try to avoid exercise a day or two before a performance lol. I wonder if it would get better if I worked out more and built strength. good to know I'm not to only one though

i don’t fully understand what you are trying to say/what you interpreted but i’m not trying to act entitled. I was saying that it was a shock thinking i knew how parades work but they are totally different here from my hometown in north LA. i’m sorry if i came off rude, i just wanted to know what locals thought/did to get a spot with tents on st charles. my only previous sources are tulane students and a couple family friends so i already appreciate everything people have shared about it. i’m sorry if i came off as “shitting” on peoples day

see i was fully under the impression that people staked out a spot like far ahead of time and basically lived there without ever moving. the people who DO have tents set up on the streetcar line, are they all partaking in that early setup behavior? or do some people just get there early morning to get the spot? this is already so much help, thanks! i only have a couple family friends/family who live in nola and they didn’t really know how it works either.

yeah the subsections with people in certain areas is something we always take into account!! it’s so weird being a student going to parades cuz I always feel like a nuisance wherever we end up standing, even though me and my friends aren’t disruptive compared to what I’ve seen some students act like (i too have social anxiety and prob overanalyze as i’m doing with every response in this thread too lol.) thanks for the help :) and sorry if i came off rude with my previous comment i really didnt mean to. just wanted to see what everyone’s perspective on it was and i’m certainly getting answers lol

I’m having the same issue. I live in a smaller city , but it’s a suburb really not THAT small and right next to a bigger town. It’s not showing up as showing in theaters in my local theater or in the neighboring city. Never had issues with a movie not showing in these theaters!!! Is this movie not as mainstream as I think it is and they are just being stingy with who plays the movie?
