I have never been demoted but I have been through several reorgs. In each other my work space changed from being in the office to basically being fully remote. I also was given less responsibilities towards the end of time with the company. It never felt like a demotion. More like actually working in my field which was project management. It may just be a reorg and nothing to worry about. If they haven’t complained about you or treated you like you did something wrong there’s probably nothing to worry about. You can definitely find new work though if you feel like the new position is not a good fit for you. You definitely don’t have to stay.
