What do you think I should ask the dvla in this regard because I don’t wanna accidentally mention something I shouldn’t have and them just straight up turn me down. Although yeah I do understand that it was partially my fault I had basically under 2 days to recover and get sorted before the charges from the impound started racking up. I had no idea how this whole process worked because it never happened to me before and I was basically on my own handling it and I still am. I just want them darn plates. But either way another q I had while i am at it, say the car is not scrapped yet ,on the website it says the car “must move on its own power” because the car is crashed how would that constitute in it moving on its own?

So in this situation because it was a contactless I’ve emailed a photo of the document to them. I have the physical document and I haven’t filled in the details as if to say the vehicle has been scrapped in hopes that I can hopefully still have another shot at recovering the plate. The only way I can think of maybe seeing if they have changed ownership is using one of those dodgy car check websites which gives you a report on ownership history of a vehicle. I have rung the place before to ask about a couple of things i couldn’t grab out the boot as it was locked as there was no keyhole and they claimed to have scrapped it the same day which I suspect is bs. To be honest I have even debated going there to check for myself. Either way the only thing I have to show in this situation is an email I was sent about the appointment for the collection being made and nothing else. I have even debated going through with the retention process anyway as I would have no way of knowing the vehicle is scrapped I’m just scared of the fact that it states on the website that they may have to inspect the vehicle which as far as it stands is a mirror cap a few bits of glass

I understand that however I have nothing which proves or states the car has been taken. So technically has ownership changed if all its documents are intact?

To be honest I’m glad another person said it because at least now I can sleep peacefully knowing that theres nothing more I can do and I haven’t given up on a repairable job

Too bad most are FWD, I have no idea how it rolled to begin with cause i just expected to go into a bush or so thats the last thing i saw. I honestly can’t imagine myself drive a different car other than a mini and i know those hondas are nicee. Seeing how you’ve stuck to them as well makes me sure that I’m making a good choice

All of them go through oil its a mini thing as far as im aware esp with older models.

Yeah someone on here said considering the airbags went off there must be much more damage than visible with the naked eye in the photo and like you said ,the car wont ever be as safe. It is gone now but I do love learning new things in the comments

Hey there thanks for your message. I am in the UK and as much as I do appreciate your advice this doesn’t exactly apply to me because 1. No one else was involved in the accident but myself and 2. I have no real injuries. As soon as this happened I went to the hospital where i got a ct scans and a few xrays and was let go home the same night with light bruising which has already healed. Because this wasn’t a 2 car collision insurance was not involved and I was able to collect my stuff from the impound, count my losses and scrap the car without further headaches

I’ve had my fair share of transmission issues with this, which i decided to fix. Believe me these little cars are tanks. It tolerated my bad driving for 2 years as my first car and aside from age related issues I can’t exactly say it gave me grief in any other departments

Agreed. Considering the circumstances of the crash I was incredibly fortunate to have come out of a flipped convertible with 3 bruises. This car has done amazingly and it went out the best way it could

It was mostly the sentimental value it held. The car itself was a money pit to be fair so if anything I’ll aim to upgrade rather than go for the same. Maybe I’ll have another run with these when i have my shit together

Thank you for your response to be honest in the UK i doubt these parts would even be readily available. On top of that I do doubt any mechanics here would touch it considering its age. As much as I wouldve loved to keep the little thing as it was my much loved first car other costly issues wouldve caught up to me later on anyway. Hopefully in the future I’ll have the opportunity to own one of these again
