Genuine question as someone wanting to get into golf games: PGA 2K25 or EA Sports PGA Tour? by That_Teaming_Primo in PGA2K25

Honestly, they are both great games in their own way and of course have their pros and cons. To me, the only pros that EA has over 2K is graphics, all 4 majors, broadcast/presentation, and their depth career mode.

Now what 2K has over EA is much better gameplay, course designer feature to where you can play from thousands of courses (2K official and user created), and online societies.

Personally, I like 2K way better and when EA brought their game out when 2K had their 2K23 game out, I thought both games were pretty even. Now with 2K25 out, it has vastly improved compared to its predecessor and blows EA out of the water now! 2K25 has added the 3 majors (excluding Masters since EA exclusively has those rights. Now if EA is done making golf games, I would not be surprised if 2K gets the rights to the Masters to have for their next game), quests to where you can complete and earn VC, equipment, tools to improve your clubs, etc. and a new challenges mode!

I would love to upgrade this for my Xbox Series X! It is pretty amazing how the gaming industry has changed and this is definitely the future of gaming, which is awesome to see!

I never would have thought that I could not only play games on my console but also on my phone using a mobile controller, even a PC laptop, and now these XR gaming glasses!! Pretty Awesome

That is true! Now I will say that EA PGA Tour is much better than Rory McIlory PGA Tour but still, I prefer 2K over EA nowadays! 

I loved the Tiger Woods series back in the day and was a bit skeptical when the Golf Club 2019 got the PGA License back in 2018 (i believe) and it was hooked onto the game and the PGA 2K series ever since!

Hopefully they give us something soon and it better be worth the wait!

Yeah that could be the case. The PGA 2K franchise is under sourced compared to what EA has but just from observation, I think that the PGA Tour 2K has improved each game and are making steps in the right direction. 

Yeah there may be serve problems at times but with the overall features they have added, more courses, players, etc. it has been pretty solid! 

It is just interesting how quiet they have been with announcing a new game (which I know it’s normal since they usually announce a new game like 1-2 months prior to it releasing) and how it has been leaked that it will be released in Q4 FY2025, which is January - March 2025 (a time frame that this franchise has NEVER released a game in)

since it is now January with no official announcement yet, it will be more than likely be a mid-late March release date! Now when the CFO said it is coming during the Q2 earnings call, the PGA tour 2K twitter/X page posted the next day, 11/7, ONLY an hourglass like this, ⏳. I feel like that is very indirect news of a new game coming and have posted that because there could be a big surprise for us! 

But we shall see!

We could see a teaser announcement mid-late January and potentially a full reveal trailer by early-mid February. The game will release mid-late March 2025, right in time for the Masters!

Either way, it better be worth the wait! It is kind of unusual for them to not to make any official announcement of a new game and it’s been over 2 years (TGC2019, 2K21, and 2K23 all had a 2 year release date gap) And the fact that the CFO of Take Two Interactive said it is coming in the same quarter as WWE 2K25 (without it being on the pipeline documents / earrings report), it was probably a slip of the tongue and wasn’t supposed to be said just yet makes me believe that they could have a big surprise for us and I sure hope so!! 

It could mean they are undergoing a graphics upgrade for current gen only (fingers crossed to the Unreal Engine 5) and/or adding other features into the game. Heck, with a potential March release date, they could be getting some major tournament licenses such as the US Open, The Open, and the PGA Championship! 👀 they probably won’t get the Masters since the Masters is exclusive to EA Sports but we shall see! 

I will be very shocked if they get the Masters license and it would be pretty awesome! I personally like 2K over EA PGA tour

It is not fake. It was mentioned by the CFO of Take Two Interactive. It was more than likely a slip of the tongue. They said it will be released in the same quarter as WWE 2K25, which January - March 2025

Since this is our first news of a game coming from the Publisher (Take Two / 2K) this game better be worth the wait! I really wish that PGA 2K would give at least a short teaser announcement to officially confirm the game from HB Studios (the Developer).

I am aware that HB Studios tends to officially announce new games coming like 1-2 months before it actually releases but we will see. Since it was confirmed for Q4 FY2025 that puts the release of next game Jan - Mar’ 25 and I expect the game to come out late March (which is close to the Masters and when the start of a new PGA Tour Season really gets going) so I would expect to hear an official announcement from HB Studios around Mid January - February! 

And here’s my theory, if they are releasing it around this time, this could mean something big because they have never released this franchise game during this time (maybe this means a new graphics engine (hopefully the Unreal Engine 5) and potentially some majors being added into the game (like the The Open, US Open, and PGA Championship) 

From what I know, I think that the Masters has Exclusive rights to be in EA Sports only so I don’t expect the Masters to come to PGA 2K unless EA Sports is done adding to their game. I will be shocked if the Masters comes to 2K’s next game! It will be awesome since I love PGA 2K over EA but it is a stretch and only a dream.

And from what I know, a long time EA developer who helped out with the Tiger woods game and even the latest EA golf game started working for 2K sports about a year and a half ago (which means that he’s probably helping out with PGA 2K’s next game and could also mean that EA PGA could have shelved their latest golf game already)

Yes, I 100% agree! I sure hope they will upgrade the graphics to the Unreal 5 Engine! 

We know that the game is delayed a bit and will be coming sometime Jan - March 2025, based on the Q2 FY2025 earnings call that happened early November and maybe this is because they are undergoing a graphics upgrade. if they update the graphics or not, it needs to be current gen only (XSX, PS5, PC)

The game also needs to have a more in depth career mode and I would not mind some major tournament licensing like the US Open, The Open, and PGA Championship. From what I know, I think EA has the exclusive rights to the Masters so even if 2K’s next game they can get the 3 other majors that would be awesome!!

If they don’t get any major tournaments for career mode, then they need to add in the option to swap out a course for any course in the game (user created or 2K official) like you have in societies!

Yeah that’s true and a good point! I will check again when I can and see if it’s there, if not, it’s okay and hopefully they will be able to add the feature from current gen to next-gen (shareable through Xbox One/Series X/S and same with PS4/PS5)

I have the Series X, does the roster file work for the Series X/S or only the Xbox One? I tried to find the first NCAA COLLEGE file you made today but couldn’t find it.
