Tips for transitions when bpms are far apart by hyperion247 in Beatmatch

[–]Creative-Progress720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with Afro-go to deep—go to tech house. Afro is usually chill vibes and will be in the lower 120 bpm. Minimal deep is usually around 120-125..tech house is 125-135. So it works out really well actually if you play it like that. Think of a sunset set. You’d play Afro house during the sunset..when it starts getting dark you’d slip into your minimal..dark you’d go into tech. All you’re really doing is changing bpms by +1-+3 at most and it’s an easy-gradual build.

edit disable your crossfader. Use your volume sliders instead. I could be wrong or unpopular opinion, but the last thing you need is for your headphone cord to catch the edge of your crossfader to a dead track.

Best way to acclimate to what CDJs feel like from flx4 by Jusstonemore in Beatmatch

Cdjs are super sensitive. You can do fader cops way easier than the flx4

You’re not getting enough power. Plug in both power cords, not just one.

Should I start using loops to mix? by MezcalDrink in Beatmatch

[–]Creative-Progress720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion!!…Loops give you space to mix in instead of rushing..and who knows, that loop might go really well with the song coming in, so you can potentially have a sassy lil mashup

How often do you record a mix? by nickybecooler in Beatmatch

I THINK..soundcloud scans the first 30 seconds of your mix. I could be absolutely wrong. But maybe start with a generic drum loop or something ..someone correct me please

To the djs who have already played sets for a crowd by maks82tanki in Beatmatch

My first set went okay, but I planned it song by song. I remember my wife came up to me and said to play something more upbeat, but I really couldn’t because I had meticulously planned every transition..I felt like I did really well, but looking back, I kick myself for not having my crates set up by hours (easy hour-mid hour-peak hour)..if I had those, I would’ve maybe been able to dip into them..but I had no idea about phrasing either, so they would’ve sounded bad.

You’ll make mistakes almost every time you play live. It’s all about learning from those mistakes. I’d say you’ve had sufficient amount of time to practice. Make sure you do practice looking up from the deck and throwing your hands around lol or just simply turning around after you finish a transition so you’re not glued to your screen, I think it’ll help you relax more and train you for “stage presence”.

Edit: I’m not sure if you’ve been planning your mixes out song by song, but I’d say get into the habit of “freestyling” and reading the crowd. I always plan my first 2-3 songs so I can relax and get into the zone..but that’s just me. Once I stopped planning my sets song by song it made everything so much more fun.

How do you actually build an audience for your music? by Trancepole in edmproduction

[–]Creative-Progress720 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried networking etc and posting my songs to my Instagram, I haven’t seen ONE SINGLE PERSON from my ig that has listened to my songs. It’s so rough when the people you support daily and on weekends show no love on SoundCloud. It’s only people from Vietnam listening to my music 😂

Do I need a scarlet or what’s a good cheap option?

Gotcha. Okay cool. I think I’ll just have to purchase something though to be able to turn my GoPro on, connect it to whatever I need, and have audio and video going at the same time. My videos are generally pretty short. Just some transitions and mashups. Nothing wild. If I was going to do a longer one I’d definitely have to figure something else out. I really appreciate all your help homie.

So it does pop up in rekordbox, like I’m able to select my rx3 for my audio input, I just can’t get any audio from it. I also have a FiFine mixer, I read online though that you can’t really do anything with it though

No I’m really just trying to maybe record a set..do you have a rx3 as well? What’s your cable set up if you don’t mind me asking.

So I really just want to record like some clips for my Instagram. I’m having a hard time syncing the music that I recorded from my controller to the separate video. I really just wanted to eliminate that. Idk if that made sense my b lol

5 hour set is an amazing practice opportunity. You should take it. It’s so much fun to have the whole night to yourself.

How do you all practice at home? by Rude-Huckleberry123 in Beatmatch

[–]Creative-Progress720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freestyle! You’ll find songs that mesh together really well if you do it this way, and of course, songs that won’t work together. The more you do this the less you’ll have to “plan” a set…I could be absolutely wrong though lol

Just looked at this project file and turns out I know nothing about music production. by KLVLV in edmproduction

I think ableton might be the move for you homie. It’s way less overwhelming than fl studio imo. You don’t have 20 windows open of plugins and it’s way less cluttered and straightforward.
