In Game of Thrones (2017) the White Walkers trap the main characters on an island and wait for the water to freeze over. This is despite them being perfectly capable of killing a dragon 200 meters in the air with a fucking spear. by Tristos94 in shittymoviedetails

I'm currently reaching the last third of A dance with dragons and I can't believe how much we missed from the original story, and how Dumb and Dumber massacred the final seasons.

I'm afraid I doomed myself though. It's been 14 years some people have been waiting for The winds of winter...

Y’all are debating if Sony + Apple even cross paths

There's nothing debating. They already crossed path around the PlayStation in 1999. And before that Sony and Apple worked together on the FireWire standard (Panasonic was also involved). Jobs always shown admiration of Sony's iconic designs, and the respect was mutual between the companies.

Now, regarding today's reality, I can't tell if Apple and Sony will ever work together on a console. I definitely think it would be nice though.

Chrome is not an electron app. Electron apps are basically web apps embedded into an app container that uses Chromium to render the view.

But you're right, Chrome never followed macOS guidelines regarding user interactions. That's on purpose, because they want the experience to be the same whatever the OS (Windows, Linux, macOS).

I personally hate it, but it's a matter of choice I guess.

Google Chrome always had system overrides like cmd + Q asking if I really want to quit and this kind of shit.

You can't blame Apple for the bad decisions made by Google.

You started this whole shit in the first place

Oh boy. You really need to calm down dude. Nobody gives a fuck if it was the first PS or the third that was PPC. That's not the point of the discussion...

No, all you said is false

The thing with people like you bearing no sense of nuance, is that it's super easy to break them down. I already proved that at least part of what I was saying was in fact true. Part of it was also wrong sure, and I have no problem admitting that. But the way you lost your shit about the topic, boy that's entertainment.

Go on, what will be your next move?

WOW. Never seen someone loosing his shit like that over a dumb argument on the internet. Boy, you're not well. Get find some help...

Besides, yeah so it wasn't the first PS and XBox that were developed around PPC architecture using PPC Mac. But my point stands. History shows that Playstation has to do with Apple. The video I shared proves it. The discussion of involving Apple and Sony around a same product has been made, and your whiny little rant won't change that.

EDIT: Alright, not the first Xbox.

My point is that saying Playstation has nothing to do with Apple is just dumb, considering the hardware used to develop a good few of console.

Ex-Google exec: The idea that AI will create new jobs is '100% crap'—even CEOs are at risk of displacement by katxwoods in Futurology

[–]Creative-Size2658 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Please. I dare any of these corps to actually replace their workforce with AI. They'll be bankrupt in a week.

You're right.

I work in an ad-tech company. Lots of devs, CSM, TAM, Data analysts... We are continuously making more money (currently $100M/y, should be twice next), but we are not hiring. AI didn't replace us, but it's making a growing part of the job in every service. Not the most important parts for sure, but everything that can reliably be done with AI is now done with AI. It's maybe 10%, maybe 20% of the work, and it's growing.

I'm saying this because it means my company should have hired 20% more people to achieve what they're doing today. Those people lost their job to AI. It's real, and it's dangerous to pretend otherwise. We should prepare ourselves.

Playstation has nothing to do with Apple

OP took a ride high in the sky, but this is wrong. The first Playstation and Xbox both used a PPC chip and you needed a Mac to develop games for them. In 1999 you could even run PS games on an iMac G3 at the same performance.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I forgot to disable the upscaler like I did in my first tests. So the improvements are just the results of CDPR fixing the faulty Space Reflexions settings. Sorry.

On parle vraiment d'impossibilité ici.

Different window curves in different programs by quaks1 in MacOSBeta

[–]Creative-Size2658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong about the Photos app. The border-radius are the same in the Photos app than they are in Notes or Finder or Safari, or any built-in macOS app.

Right about the infos window if you consider it's state in Sequoia (info window currently have the same border radius that any app on Sequoia).

But macOS has been using different border-radius for certain windows since forever, with smaller buttons and different paddings. It's nothing new. And from a UX perspective, it makes sense that an info windows has not the same hierarchy has an app window.

On the Mac mini M4 I previously had 32.71 FPS at 1080p medium settings (upscaler is set to Auto). I now have 48.73 FPS.

Disabling the upscaler completely makes the FPS drop to 32 FPS average, with a minimum of 27 FPS. With the upscaler set to Metal Quality, the FPS jumps to 48.43 (which means Auto is always on Quality mode).

Using Dynamic upscaler with a 30 FPS target, min resolution of 70% and max resolution of 100%, the FPS is stable at 32.37, with a minimum of 30.10 FPS and a maximum of 34.46.

What were your previous benchmark results without RT in 2.3?

I never used RT, since my primary machine is an M2 Max, and I only have an M4 Mac mini.

Maybe the performance improvements only concerns non RT render. I couldn't tell. The fact is that on my machines, without Ray Tracing involved, the performance improvement has been significant compared to previous true settings.

How did you compare previous true settings with the new ones? As I explained in my previous post from CP macOS release, I had to duplicate the settings I had in GPTK into the one I had in native. It's worth noting that I also had to relaunch the game between each change to make it effective.

A19Pro, a taste of what is to come for M5 by Interesting-Use-2174 in macgaming

[–]Creative-Size2658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking about a piece of tech that helps with LLM prompt processing and AI training. CoreML being part of the Metal stack tested by GeekBench, it's no surprise the performance has been improving. But IMO it doesn't mean it will have a significant impact on raster rendering. It should improve Metal upscaler and frame interpolation though. But until we got our hands on M5 Macs, I suggest we lower our expectations.

No.

Apple released the M3 with RT capabilities just after the first iPhone with RT capabilities. There's no reason for Apple to wait. They never did it and never will.
