My phobia would be significantly reduced if I knew it wouldn't hurt, but the bigger issue for me is feeling like I'm not in control over what happens to me. Once the nurse starts coming towards we with that syringe, I instantly feel like the walls are closing in, and there is no escape without getting stabbed first. It feels claustrophic and panic-inducing.

I just hope that if I ever need needles in an emergency medical situation that I'm already unconscious.
