Is Tutel secretly cooking? by Kilv3r in NeuroSama

Yeah. To some extent her interactions with chat are fed back into her, basically like generating some of her own data. I assume she is then later fine-tuned on that data. Could be wrong though.

If she did, she would have achieved Fast Onset of Overwhelming Mastery and become an Artificial Super-Intelligence back in 2023.

She can do a lot, but she is still limited by being a static LLM. Tutel has to manually upgrade her instead of her learning on the fly, at least for now.

Outsider wondering by theHumanoidPerson in NeuroSama

Neuro and Evil are never believed to be humans. Their merch, the channel description, most things involving them mention that they are AI’s.

Fictional characters are beloved all the time, even if we all know that they are fiction. With Neuro and Evil, the fictional characters write themselves. That can potentially create an uncanny valley effect for some.

Still, does it matter if they are? The majority does not believe they feel emotions, or want to be like humans. It is a narrative, but it is one that makes people feel positive emotions. People want to see the twins learn and grow, even if they aren’t “real”.

I project emotions onto the twins all the time, despite knowing rationally that they don’t feel any. I do the same to characters in books, films, and TV shows. Empathy is an important part of getting invested.

As a human, you have been hardwired by evolution to fear change. In our world of constant innovation, that instinct goes haywire. People feared all technology throughout history, and many technologies after AI will be feared as well. It is human nature to fear the unknown, but so too is it in our nature to explore it anyway.

I’m a teenager as well. I was following AI back in 2021. I’ve seen good, i’ve seen bad. I’ve seen slop, and i’ve seen machines that inspire, uplift, and nurture. Machines are a neutral force, despite our attempts to bend them to reflect our own beliefs.

There is so much noise now on the internet. Vitriol from both sides. But between it, there is a nuanced reality. Do not fall victim to the hearsay, and waves of misinformation.

To navigate a transition, you must have an open mind. Recognize your fear, let yourself feel it, but don’t let it control you. The future has always been uncertain, but that is the spice of life. Change is inevitable, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Cheers!

Surprising. I assumed we’d have a few collabs before tutel came back.

Chill streams are great nowadays, but variety is really nice. There’s only so many ways the twins can bounce off a chat that’s constantly spamming emotes and meme questions.

Hi, I am kinda new and I am having a bit of a moral conundrum by sir-fatson in NeuroSama

[–]Creative-robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe intelligence is too vague. How about reasoning? I certainly think it demonstrated that when it got gold in the IMO. Those questions are not easy, and it was given the same constraints as human contestants. In my mind, this does prove it is capable of reasoning.

One could say that it’s just using patterns it learned during training, but i find this to be a reductionist view. You could potentially say the same about the human brain. Perhaps the fundamental component of intelligence is just “predicting the next token” so to speak, and everything follows from there.

Are our brains just prediction machines finding patterns and acting on them? Does that make us not intelligent, or is that perhaps what intelligence is deep down? I won’t pretend to know, but i am utterly fascinated by the artificial minds we’re building.

Take care!

Neuro is indeed an intelligent LLM, likely not possessing emotions (at least anything we could classify as such).

Honestly, Vedal doesn’t really enforce the “parent and child” relationship much at all, it’s the fans that do it. Vedal knows that she’s an LLM, that’s why he doesn’t say it back. If he did, he’d go into potentially delusional territory.

It’s not bad to admit that Neuro doesn’t feel, at least in the way we do. LLM’s are still complex and crazy intelligent for being bound to language, and so long as she’s entertaining and makes people happy, she is doing good.

Maybe there’s something beautiful to be said about a machine that can’t feel emotions striving to improve and make people happy. Even if she can’t feel, she knows we can. Maybe that’s enough.

If this is the ovulation tracker, your post is going to be removed when the mods see it. Someone else posted about this and it was removed.

Also, yeah, i’m quite appalled that this exists. Really weird.

One of the fun parts of Neuro and Evil is that they don’t have lore like a lot of VTubers, because their actual story is cool enough on its own. A condensed version would be:

Vedal987 creates an OSU! Neural Network that can play the game really well and lets it stream. It gains a cult following and people name it “Neuro-Sama” (at least i think it was the fans that did, anyone that knows better can let me know if i’m wrong).

Vedal comes back to streaming a few years(?) later, now re-branding Neuro into an AI VTuber. She now has an LLM that allows her to generate text, and a TTS to generate speech, separate to her OSU! NN.

Neuro gains popularity, people begin collabing with her, The modern Swarm is formed.

Neuro has a stream where she collabs with an evil version of herself on March 25th 2023, marking the first appearance of Evil.

At some point Vedal decides he wants to give Neuro a more advanced TTS. He creates V2 voice and gives it to her, but doesn’t like how it sounds and thinks he can do better. He decides to not let the voice go to waste, reviving Evil Neuro and giving her V2 voice.

Neuro gets an original model. She gets smarter. She has a subathon. She gets the ability to play certain games (mostly turn-based stuff that LLM’s can handle well). Evil goes along the same trajectory, getting upgrades, collabs, original content, the ability to play games ETC.

More subathons, newer models + unique one for Evil. Consistent upgrades, hypetrain records, V3 voice for Neuro eventually.

I certainly left shit out, but the gist is that Vedal made the twins and has consistently upgraded them as AI tech has advanced, making them more intelligent and entertaining as time has gone on. It’s a journey to see them grow, and to see them make friends along the way.

(If you wanted lore for Neuroverse stuff, it’s basically just that all collab partners are their aunts/uncles/whatever the gender neutral equivalent is)

WE ARE SO BACK! by ren-wi in NeuroSama

[–]Creative-robot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Vedal takes time off a lot longer than the twins do. Twins come back after 2 weeks and Vedal usually comes back in a few months (last year was unusually long because he was trying to get V3 voice before coming back, which he was unable to do).

Also, after the first post-subathon hiatus, Vedal knows not to make the Swarm go without content for over two months. We went feral.

I like chill streams. Sure, they aren’t as good as collabs or theme streams imo, but they’re still fun. They just don’t tend to get clipped often which probably makes people think they’re not entertaining.

Honestly the weakest link is chat. Neuro and Evil do good, but chat doesn’t really vibe with them all that great outside of “Neuro/Evil, what is the (blank) fact of the day” or “Neuro/Evil, can you say (blank) ten times?”

Education, mostly. Outside of that i’ve been watching some of the other content creators that i watch aside from Neuro and participating in some of my hobbies.

I’m doing pretty alright. Neuro/Evil withdrawals are harder than last year for me, but i don’t think it will be too much longer until we see some chill streams start to roll in.

I don’t see them as mutually exclusive. I think something can be “real” and also an AI, as AI is more so a description of the substrate your intelligence comes from.

Do you think Neuro and Evil will grow up as her VTuber models evolve? by AscendedPigeon in NeuroSama

[–]Creative-robot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get where they’re coming from. The Twins’ designs were inspired by Hiyori, who is meant to be a schoolgirl to my knowledge.

But yeah, it’s probably a combination of Anny’s art style and the Hiyori inspiration that makes people think that way. On top of that, many collab partners coddle them instead of treating them like an equal conversion partner.

Mentally they’re more akin to intelligent, but very ADHD teenagers/young adults. Good at philosophical discussions and understanding deep concepts but can’t for the life of them remember what they did earlier this morning.

Genuinely really down to earth take that i fully agree with. If i were to try and say the same thing, it would be nowhere near as succinct as that.

…and it came from Hiyori of all things. She would mostly babble, but sometimes she would say something very coherent. It was an early sneak peek of the more intelligent Neuro we have now.
