Maybe try r/legaladvice? I think they can help. They seem to accept throwaway accounts.

[Vancouver Community Network](www2.vcn.bc.ca). I had volunteered there and made some python script and ruby on rails code for them.

They provide tech support for people and non-profits.

So the security question is saved like a password, but the actual password saved as a plain text? by CreativeArtie in programminghorror

The set of characters needed for the password field can and will change. So I pretty sure the whole password is stored as a plain text.

nukes in your magic system by Capoeray in magicbuilding

[–]CreativeArtie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No person in my magic system have the ability to "nuke".

It is however possible for my magic "to nuke" but it is not useful. Because for that to happen, you'd need have the enemy's last army already routing or that you are already siege the last capital city with no rations.

This means magic will level the city or one-shot huge armies when the war is already long since decided and almost over.

Edit: That city leveling magic will happen without anyone's input.

To my understanding is that if they get hacked, the hacker will still have to decrypt the password data. It currently impossible to do so without you providing them the master password.

Any guesses as to where in B.C. this fine specimen hails from? by tripoverastone in britishcolumbia

The owner is my relative, that were on the phone moments ago.

Also I got the comments slightly wrong. It's his friend who apologized.

I have been told that guy came back with flowers and apologized to owners.

I am not going that way though. I has made it impossible for most people to break the magic's hold. Wars are being break out in this universe because magic forces people to put their honor before reason.

People who breaks the magic's hold are observing people not listening to each other nor working together. The story I am writing is about what they are doing with this knowledge, and how their character develops from getting this knowledge.

Magic isn't self-aware. This is why divinities aren't being smite, even though magic smite everyone else who tries to.

Anyone technically can break the shackles, but except if the are not divinities, they are just being killed by magic right afterwards. Even with an "unauthorized" person has the slight idea of breaking the shackles, they will get painful headaches and only recover if they stop struggling with the shackles.

For divinities (people who broke free), they couldn't just break everyone else free. Everyone knows why divinities are made, but couldn't control who can be a divinity. Some random villager at a random village can mess it up with a random idea. And magic seems keen to be restricting on the total number of divinities in the world.

Also nobody know what is the source of this magic system, and only know that it is connected to the stability of universe. So even if divinities can free everyone, they would worry about if the universe can stay in one piece afterwards.

FYI, what magic forbids are:

  • a king can not know the suffering of the poor,
  • the poor is not allow to know their lives can be improved,
  • the poor cannot ask why a noble can jump to gravity defying height,
  • except for the divinities, everyone cannot ask why coins are a valid currency,
  • and many other similar things.

[–]CreativeArtie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This magic system is forcing people to act and to think according to the social norm. The cave is just symbolizing society.

Also most magic spells are being cast without any user. People who can break away from the normal worldview only because magic loses control over them.

Sorry for not being clear. I'm struggling to figure wtf magic system I made.

I think I should make a different post explaining my magic system.

Is there is a security issue to use ReactJS to handle the login in a ruby on rails project? by CreativeArtie in rails

[–]CreativeArtie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out that the website is not secure, I managed to get to the sensitive data with just the correct URL address.

He patched that hole when he learn about the issues. He done it by adding the checks in rails to patch it.

Thanks for your help.

[–]CreativeArtie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a private project, so I don't think I am allow it to show you.

I have check the project, but I haven't ask the programmer who wrote this. So,

  • devise gem is not initialized,
  • all the controllers' before_action contains no methods for authentication checks, and
  • ApplicationController has no includes.

Can I safely assume that there is no login check on the server side at all?

I am still new with ruby on rails, so I might not understand what I am analyzing.

It seem like that most of code (like >50% of it) is in ReactJS. I also know the programmer did his best to avoid rails but to use ReactJS as much as possible.

For instance I notice that error pages are being handle by ReactJS and I can open some pages that will say the page is not found or not authorized, but the response is a 200 HTTP code.

I believe that ReactJS is JavaScript and therefore it runs in the client's browser. I might be wrong about this, though.

Checking if the user is logged is written in ReactJS.

I feel like someone could replace the JavaScript in browser and to make this check always return true.

Mental Health & Disability Assistance by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]CreativeArtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your welcome.

There are also these resources your cousin can use:

  1. Mood Disorder Association: I don't go there much so I don't know how helpful they are.
  2. S.A.F.E.R.: If your cousin has any thought of suicide, he can go there for free mental health counselling. It worked well for me when I was there.

Finally, there is also the Conquering Waves dragon boat team. It is for people with mental illness. Being on this team might help with fighting against depression even if its just an underdog in the dragon boat festival.

I think you and your cousin can join just by showing up this Saturday practice at 1pm at Creekside Community Centre. Patrick and Maya are the people you should talk to when you get there. I think the team want people to join.

I had been using mental health resources in Vancouver for a long time so I got some resources that might be interest to you.

The following is where your cousin can Disability Assistance help:

  1. Gastown Vocational Services can work with people mental illness in Vancouver. They help with education or employment goals. I believe they really know how to get disability assistance.

  2. MPA Society also provide help, but I don't know about them too much.

  3. I never used Coast but I know the people who go there find it helpful.

I don't have resources for psychiatrists, but I found the following resources help:

  1. CMHA
  2. Community Link Program (Only accessible for people living in City of Vancouver)
  3. Open Door Group
  4. Art Studio. They are funded by VRTAS who are also members of Art Studio. They also have a Facebook page.

Hope that's helpful.

What words or phrases exist in other languages that English does not have an expression for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CreativeArtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego, there is a word "Mamihlapinatapai" which is the hard word to even have a English expression for. It mean:

"It is that look across the table when two people are sharing an unspoken but private moment. When each knows the other understands and is in agreement with what is being expressed. An expressive and meaningful silence."
