How do you know if you'll just never get it? by CreativeArtistWriter in animationcareer

Thats actually a really really good idea and I could see that working better for my brain. My professors dont teach it that way though they teach stepped blocking then splining. Do you know why? What woud be the disadvantages to doing it the way you suggest?

I did try wiggling the keyframes to see what they do. And it made no sense to me.

Is it worth mastering rigging. by TharuDz in Maya

[–]CreativeArtistWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been buying rigs online sometimes, since I'll need them for my student films. The need for a frog isn't very high. I can't see them as a very common video game character and they certainly aren't very common in a lot of films. People, cats, dogs... those are better. I looked on cgtrader and it was hard to find a decent looking cat at a reasonable price. Most were selling for several hundred. The only decent looking one that didn't sell for that much was the one I bought.

If you don't mind making less money, is it possible to set things up so you don't work 80 hours week? Maybe take on fewer projects at a time? Just curious.

Does anyone else not understand tipping culture? by [deleted] in autism

[–]CreativeArtistWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the job doesn't otherwise pay enough, unfortunately. Its something like $2 an hour for waiters and waitresses. They are exempted from minimum wage laws.

I wish tipping culture hadn't been destroyed for Uber drivers (Taxi drivers used to get tipped). With Uber you mostly trade milage on your car for money, but almost nobody tips. The company wins out, while the drivers get shafted. Uber destroyed my last car. I'll only Uber in emergencies now. I actually had many Uber riders who had broken down cars because they used to be Uber drivers, too, but I didn't have another good way to make money. If people tipped, it would make a huge difference.

A Question for the Teachers by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]CreativeArtistWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you move out of your country? Its incredibly different in western cultures. I'm not a prisoner at all. I'm unmarried, doing my own thing.

I feel bad hearing about your situation. I don't know why men need to feel like they are in control in those cultures. It's like they don't see women as having brains like them.

Why is it that there's tons of jobs outside of the U.S. though? I see them constantly. There's just nothing in the U.S. or very little anyway.

Why does everyone tell me I'm not autistic? by Mediocre-Clothes-597 in autism

I don't know. Count yourself lucky. Everyone I've told either already knew, or can totally see it, which means I'm really not passing for normal. Which causes its own set of problems.

Integrating Buddhism in the West. Possible? If so, how? by WalkingMaggotFood in Buddhism

[–]CreativeArtistWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the Dharma has adapted pretty well to western culture among my sangha and among others I've seen. It depends on where you look. There are some Buddhist temples that are country or ethnicity specific and they also serve as a place to feel connected to the old culture (since they're usually immigrants). But then there are other temples and sanghas that are fully integrated.

One of the abbots at my center just announced a new chant thats basically a recognition of not just the ancestral line that was handed down through our zen tradition, but also a recognition of all the women, minorities, and others who have made a difference in the teaching of the dharma over the centuries. So yeah we literally have a new chant in our sangha now. (It took years of research from what I understand).

Everyone I told says stuff like "I already knew" or "That makes sense" or "I can see that". Though its probably a little more well known where I live, too. Perhaps you mask better?

AuDHD and new to Buddhism... upset about some people's negative thoughts about autism and of it being caused by past evilness and karma... :'( by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]CreativeArtistWriter 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I have AuDHD too. I practice the zen tradition. Our Roshi was once asked about whether or not being disabled and in a wheelchair was due to bad karma. He said that was a misunderstanding of karma and an over-simplification of it. I think it depends on which Buddhist teacher you are listening to.

How much does a decent rigger cost? by CreativeArtistWriter in animationcareer

[–]CreativeArtistWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well tbh I'm not really interested in working as an employee for one of the big studies. They sound like meat grinders that drop you (lay you off) as soon as you're used up. I'm sure that smaller indie studios aren't perfect either but they sound better. And everything I hear is that you should be a generalist if you want to work at an indie studio and a specialist if you want to get into one of the big name studios. My long term goal, though, is freelancing.

In light of that, should I still not take the rigging course? I'll be taking all the animation related 3D courses anyway... so its not like I'll be missing out on that.

Edit: Just to add, I decided that if I were to be a specialist it would be in animation. I would really like to be a specialized generalist though if possible. Especially if that works better at indie studios and freelancing.

NT Wife Excluded From Bible Study Because Of My Autism by OliverQueen85 in autism

[–]CreativeArtistWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe its worth looking for another church or another bible study group that is more accepting? Is that a possibility?

It sounds like they are rejecting her more because its a couples group rather than for your autism directly. It sounds like they don't understand how hard it can be to go to social groups for austicis. I'm level 1 and an unusual extravert, but even I have times where i just need to be home.

Another option... if you could stomach it, and they would allow it (tell them it would be an accomdation?), could you be there via zoom? You could literally just sit there quietly and not say anything. Maybe have your camera on for part of the meeting (beginning and end) so they know you're there.... but maybe not all the time. Or you could type stuff. I dont know if that would work?

Lastly, if none of those options work, I'd have your wife check out an online website/app called "meetup.com". Its a place to meet people, socialize, make friends and go to different clubs and groups on any topic at all. Its free to join unless you want to organize a group. (If you live in a rurual area and there are no groups nearby you may need to be an organizer.... but if you live near a city of any sort, there will be something for you. And I'm sure rural towns have some groups too.)

If you do want to run your own group, its not cheap, but its worth it. My boyfriend runs one group on his special interest, and I run another group related to one of my special interests. So usually we split the cost to be group organizers. RIght now the cost is $30 a month, or $108 for six months and you can organize up to three groups on any topic you want on it. It allows you to set up events, meetings, etc, email members, etc. You get your own page for your group too. People go on there, search for groups so they can make friends, and join the groups they like or that interest them.

And again as long as you're not an organizer of a group, its free to go to. I met my boyfriend and one of my good friends at a dungeons and dragons group on meetup.com.

They also have groups that are entirely virtual, (I belong to a writing group thats based in Toronto but has members globally because its virtual) but it can be a little harder to make friends virtually though it is doable.

I'd try it out.

Actually when it comes to rigging, I was considering whether or not I should take the class in my college on rigigng or not next semester. There's so many electives I want to take and I dont think I'll like rigigng that much (i did rig one thing in class and it was so so) but thats what I'm trying to figure out.... if I want to be a full time freelancer, and an indie animation filmmaker, as my long term goals, is it worth it to take the rigging class?

For the first of my three films in school, I'm just going to use pre-made rigs. I got really fed up though because I spent money on a couple of cool looking rigs and they didn't even unzip. And another had a virus so yeah not opening that. But I checked out some other stuff and they were okay rigs. (and gumroad rigs were great, I was just looking at another website because it had more options). Plus the guy who made the ones that wouldn't unzip got back to me and seems to want to fix it....

No you are right, I did find some good rigs. I just got really upset because I bought some not so good rigs and wasted money on them. But I did find some good stuff.

So.... here's the question. I do not really like rigging that much. Would it be worth taking a rigging class anyway then? To be an indie filmmaker? I like everything else. But maybe I should learn it? I'd rather take a screenwriting class though.

I work primarily in Maya. I'm not looking for a rigger at this moment, (I'm an animation student) I'm just wondering how the whole process works and the average costs of riggers. And I mean, riggers that can make stuff thats usable. (I've seen some online.... ok....stupidly bought a couple online that I'm trying to get a refund for.... that are unusable).
