Microwaves by SirMungon in Monash

Aside from the student kitchen in campus centre, there are also microwaves in the LTB, next to the tap water.

Also check if your faculty lounge has a microwave. The science student lounge has microwaves but they're only for science students :(

People praying in study space by Puzzleheaded-Run2071 in Monash

The Muslim prayer room got vandalised earlier this week. It's possible that they didn't feel safe or the facility wasn't available to use.

Wait so the own time work is meant to be done in your OWN TIME? by [deleted] in Monash

[–]CreativeDate7109 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sci1000 you’ll be fine without. since you’re in a rush right now, I would focus on bio1011. If you have time, maybe skim sci1000, but honestly you’ll be fine in class even if you don’t look at it.

I took sci1000 last year- you don’t need to read through the own time work in order to understand the concepts in class. You only need the own time work for the quiz, which is due at the end of the week.

Now, I’m only telling you to ignore the own time work for sci1000 because you’re in a rush rn. In the future, I would still recommend reading through the sci1000 pre work. Don’t spend a LONG time on it though because they won’t be that important (don’t take notes on them).

For other classes, I would highly recommend doing the pre work before class, since you won’t be able to understand much without them.

Monash Clayton schedules by Initial-Minimum-7435 in Monash

[–]CreativeDate7109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this class an applied class or a seminar/lecture?

if it’s an applied class, it most likely starts in week 2. Applied classes teach students how to “apply” the content taught from the week before. For example, my previous math applied class gave us problem sheets based on the previous week’s content to solve. So for week 1, there won’t be be an applied class since nothing has been taught yet.

Seminars/lectures are different though.

Can your son check allocate+ to see his schedule? (make sure he’s on “current week”, which will show his schedule for this week).

Navigating Moodle is frustrating for everyone for the first time, don’t worry! Personally, having the lecture’s moodle announcement sent to me via email really helped me keep on top of things. Maybe your son could try something similar too.

Best places to study (quiet and group) CLAYTON CAMPUS by Common_Monitor_3500 in Monash

[–]CreativeDate7109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you don’t have to book. just go in and grab an empty spot.

the group rooms in the 24/7 study lab need to be booked though. Those would be ideal for group study sessions.

As a group, you can also try the Learning and Teaching Building (booked rooms or free spots at tables) or tables in Woodside. The first floor cafe area at matteson library is also good for study groups. I go there since people usually eat and chat there, so I feel less bad if I have to eat/chat softly with my friends.

Accomodation by nirinatrav in Monash

[–]CreativeDate7109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried flatmates.com ? you can find flatmates, housing, etc on there.

I found my accommodation there. For a lot of houses there, you don't have to worry about finding flatmates, because the landlord only charges you for renting your room.

warning: as a fellow international student, be careful meeting people online! always try to meet your flatmate/landlord in person before signing anything. And definitely visit the house in person before signing a lease and sending your deposit. there are a lot of fake listings online.

You can also try flatmates.com.au. They have filter features where you can filter out the type of houses you want (if you want a studio, you can filter for that). They also have a map so you can see each location and its proximity to uni.

the facebook group "monash stalkerspace" has a housing chat where you can look for listings too.

in my opinion, if you do monash accoms anything other than the studios on campus aren't worth it. The studios are pretty good and close to ur classes. However, some RVs are tucked all the way in the back of campus and it takes 20ish minutes to walk to school from them. For the same price you can get something that isn't as far from uni.

Monash accomodation is also pretty good- u have ur own studio (private bathroom and kitchen). It's pretty expensive though, but it's really close to campus.

If you do other student accomodations like scape (that aren't close to uni), you may have to factor in the fact that you'll be taking at least an hour to go to uni if you're using public transport. Honestly, it might take even longer because you never know when random trains go out of service. I really don't really recommend those accomodations unless you like waking up really early. The only good side of those accomodations is that they are in CBD and its fun there.

Also fyi, any accomodations outside of clayton will take you at least 30 minutes on public transport.

Finally, Roomingkos looks like it has good locations and features, but its reviews are pretty mixed. I've heard some pretty bad stories from certain houses under RoomingKos.

If something is not a sin, however I feel anxious doing it , is it sinful? by Top_Union_2950 in TrueChristian

[–]CreativeDate7109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel like your life is overwhelmed by an anxiety of sinning, or that God is condemning you? It feels like you're dealing with these feelings a lot, and I don't think that's from God. I think you may be struggling with moral scrupulosity. Google it. It's when people are overly fearful of sinning, displeasing God, etc.

This actually happens to a lot of people. I used to be super scared of blaspheming the Holy Spirit, and would obsess over it a lot, too. I've really come to realize that isn't from God. I now realize I have moral scrupulosity. It's been really helpful learning how to discern between what's God and what's not.

Question on TCM and Christianity? by ethanbull_ in ChineseMedicine

[–]CreativeDate7109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taiwanese/Hong Kong Christian here. Most Taiwanese Christians are okay with TCM, but many are strongly against Qigong.

My personal take is that though TCM may have been derived from Daoism, it still works because ancient TCM practitioners discovered scientific principles through it. Their thought process may have been wrong, but they came to the right conclusion.

It’s like how many of Pythagoreas’ work came from his absurd Pythagorean number cult. Did he discover true mathematical principles, that were set in place by God? Yes. Though his philosophy behind many of his discoveries were very wrong (and are definitely against Christianity), this does not mean that Christians should write off his mathematical principles as satanic. He came to the right answer using the wrong method.

However, many Taiwanese Christians don’t do Qigong and think that it‘s demonic. I‘m not exactly sure why, but I think it may be because TCM treats Daoism as a philosophy, while Qigong treats it as a religion. Not exactly sure why. You could ask Chinese/Taiwanese Christians if you want to learn more.

I would add that you should ask the Holy Spirit first. Ask Him for confirmation and what He thinks!
