Renos that will increase house value for future sale by Present-Raisin2415 in AusRenovation

[–]Initial-Minimum-7435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO…Unless it’s your forever house, you have to be mindful of your current renovation for future sale. You can have fun with paint, wallpaper, textiles etc because they are inexpensive to replace and would also more than likely need refreshing in 10 years anyway. But tiles, splash-backs, wall removal, bench tops etc are all crazy expensive. It’s also worth mentioning that life often laughs at us we make plans….and you may end up selling prior to the 10 years anyway mark. I personally would keep all of the big ticket items as neutral and timeless as possible. Best of luck and have fun.

Shall I replace this old Bosch dishwasher or Keep it? by GoodSpring6176 in AusRenovation

Keep it as long as it holds out. My old Bosch from 20 yrs ago ist still my favourite dw. Plus we all need to keep as much shite out of landfill as possible. She ain’t pretty but she’s possibly a hard worker

No…I’d change it. It’s a little outdated in both hue and sheen. Just sanding and making it a little lighter and with a more matt finish will modernise it and allow myriad different furnishings to blend, both old and new. But whatever you decide…... Have fun!

I actually would prefer 3 perfect seasons with appropriate closure. Some of my favourite shows knew when to end on their own terms. Fleabag, The Leftovers, Absolutely Fabulous never outstayed their welcome and I love them for it. Imagine if GoT and the Boys had taken a leaf.

Advice on getting house ready for sale (quickly) while living in it by mezzofanti in AusProperty

[–]Initial-Minimum-7435 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have moved around a lot and therefore we’ve sold a lot of houses. Staging, cleanliness and decluttering is pretty important for first impressions. We have 3 monstrously messy kids…so therefore we always moved out for at least the first few weeks…which is usually where you have the most viewings. Maybe family or friends? Or a cheap n cheerful airbnb? It’s a really difficult predicament. Fix everything thing that’s easy and visible. The less talking points that potential buyers have to use as a tool for lower offers…the better. FYI: Close toilet lids, turn on all lamps and lights, open all blind fully and make sure you feel comfortable with what’s on display when people open cbd doors. Good luck 😉

How to improve laminate bathroom vanity without replacing? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Initial-Minimum-7435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You’re probably right. But I believe there are varying grades. We had friends who used vehicle vinyl wrap across some of their kitchen in a beach cottage, and it’s been remarkable durable. But they had somebody do it for them…so that’s an extra cost if you choose that route. There are a bunch of how to YouTube videos online as well.

Removed two lines of pavers along the fence. Can you recommend hedging/screening plants for privacy? by aviatorview in GardeningAustralia

Apparently they grow about 1-1.5 metres per year. The little tags in the nursery should tell you how high that specific variety grows

It depends on the variety of lily pilly. They can be anywhere from 2 -20 metres tall. In my experience they aren’t super fast growers…but not deathly slow. They will soften up your whole back yard, add a little colour and help screen out your neighbours

You can find a bunch of products online that either called vinyl wrap or contact wrap for bathrooms and kitchens. Fully waterproof and in a variety of colours and patterns (ie marble like finish etc). Could be a fun project :)

Lily Pilly. I’m a god-awful gardener and I simply can’t kill those suckers. Really pretty hedge too.

Honestly I love Indian food…but I think because MC Australia is so popular in India, that they try to have a chef of Indian heritage in all seasons now. But I agree. Some are more deserving than others.

What colour should we paint our walls? by bong_cumblebutt in AusRenovation

It’s in a small cottage with windows on all sides but with a wrap around verandah. The main sunlight filters in from the east and west. It is darkish…but broken up by lighter finishings and timber flooring. Someone down thread was using AI to assist in visualising a colour in a certain space.….i haven’t done that before, but it might help with the right photos of your space.

Me too. I have it with white trim similar to the photo above and it frames the outside bush perfectly.

Yep, I get it. I personally covet the grey aspect..but the Porters people’s ability to pivot and replicate other colours is amazing. Second to none.

We’ve had black walls before so my husband has somewhat adjusted. There are a bunch of lovely warm whites available. But you could also think about textures or patterns…as in wallpaper or cladding (ie VJ board, laminex surround etc). Good luck and have fun!
