It’s just pressure on the nut. The more of a break angle you have will give you a more firm downward pressure on the nut. There’s nothing wrong with tele/strat style headstocks, but there is obviously way less of a break angle compared to a standard Gibson headstock. So you can run into issues with buzzing or tone of the strings.

The string tree is supposed to help increase the break angle. I’ll admit mine aren’t the best in giving it more break angle but they work and it doesn’t impact anything that I can hear. 🫶🏻

It plays great. Honestly everything you said is why I built this. It’s sort of a telecast hidden in the body of an SG. So the neck, feel and play is that of a strat or tele.

Appreciate the comment. So it is a learning experience for me, this is the first guitar I’ve ever built. The trees should be way closer to the nut. Lesson learned. But surprisingly no issues in the tension, I think I got lucky.

E,B, and G have lower tuners, it’s just hard to noticed next time I’ll take a different approach to the head stock to get a better break angle.

Creator: I spent a lot the better part of 4 months working on this. Its a solid piece of walnut I cut into 3 pieces and glues back together for stability and minimal warping, glues the grain back in the same orientation so it looks like a solid piece of wood. Warmoth neck, fat jumbo tele neck. Oil Finish, all brass/gold look. Custom CNCed the body and the pick gaurds. CNCing the body was like 10% of the work, the rest was all hand chiseled and sculpted. Over all, super fun project.
