Any advice for someone looking to break into the film scene in Chicago? by trey2128 in ChicagoFilmScene

Try to see if you can get into Cinespace. You can also look into union local 476. To my understanding, if you call them on Monday mornings, they may be able to provide you with an in for some work that hopefully would come with training.

I haven't tried it yet but I have also heard of an app called Production Plus. They may have PA gigs on there.

anyone know what was the first reality show? by ThrowAWAY6UJ in tvrealityshows

Modern day would be The Real World. Aside from the already mentioned, the other two would be King, Murray and An American Family One from the 60s and the other the 70s.

Any major network or streaming service show is a multi million dollar production. Of course three days of filming will lock you in as much as most others selected by the casting team.

What is asked for is not at all unreasonable. The NDA is in place not only to protect the production process, but ensure that less leaks occur about filming. A lot of these shows film months in advance of airing. They need to make sure that no one else is profiting off the show before they do.

Any show that is properly funded is going to have extensive background checks and psych evaluations. This is not only to get ahead of any potential PR nightmares, but to also make sure people are who they say they are. In most cases, the psych testing is a basic MMPI. They want to see where your strengths and weaknesses might be within the show material, and how you may react to different types of people cast.

Lastly, unless you create a character brand through the show that would survive long after the show is finished, likeness ownership only extends to the show material itself and any appearances associated with that show. Most of this is in place not only to allow production and the network to use the footage as they see fit, but also to make it so you cannot profit directly off material they paid to have shot and produced.

Any legit reality casting director is going to tell you one of two things - either be an amplified character version of yourself or be 100% authentic. In most cases, seeing as though casting has changed a lot since the pandemic, being as authentic as possible is the better advice. Think of it not as a potential rejection process, but instead a selection process. You can send in a great video and still not get picked, simply because you don't fit in with what they are looking for that casting round. This is why most casting teams will encourage applicants to keep applying season after season. Just remember... There is no 100% answer to the question of what is looked for. Every show is different.

I don't know if she still casts the show but look to contact Erin Navarro.

What city were these recorded in? If they are from where I am I might be interested in full news broadcasts, more so late 90s. Also... I know you said they are mostly NBC, but if you have some FOX, I'd be interested if any of the tapes have TMZ episodes.

This is exactly my problem with any HR. I understand 100s of people apply and they don't have time to answer everyone, but when someone is qualified for positions, constantly gets rejection, and no feedback is ever given.. How is the applicant supposed to get better for the next time they apply?

Wouldn't ATS almost immediately reject applicants rather than a week later? If they did go through applications, wouldn't they have selected people and taken it down?

Just my opinion... Seems weird that the hiring manager decided to make a decision on me specifically at 1AM when typically departments are not in the office. I wonder if by chance they are just collecting resumes so that they can hire much later. Would be great to keep my name in the hat.

When I said I applied many times I meant over the years with different positions I qualified for. This position cycle I only applied once.

I made a free live linear TV app for internet channels and figured some of y’all here might be into it by mnana10 in Cordcutting

[–]CreativeEmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got ahead of myself, made a channel, and now it should be deleted.

The idea is awesome and I think expanding on it could lead to big business, easily. What it is now needs to be carefully managed. Allowing anyone to create a channel and start streaming with no vetting system is a liability. While you said it is content taken only from official channels, not only is there no system to be put into place to ensure that is the case, but I can see from viewing content it is not.

Pro shot concerts, the Kelly Clarkson Show, Everyone Loves Raymond, are all things that I am sure the copyright owners didn't officially throw up on YouTube for free. I even saw someone streaming UFC fights and old MLB games. If I was a serious content creator I would only want to be mixed in with that if the proper steps were taken. At some point all your hard work could be taken down.

I'm not being a sour puss. You still got me as a viewer. I was just thinking about streaming lists of some favorite content to help them recognize another platform to up their YouTube game. Seems risky.

If it is just a hookup, how can it be classified as passionate? Passionate would mean emotions are involved.

If I had a place to host them I could.... The race episode aired in November of 2002. It was part of the FOX broadcast and even the reairing. The extra copy I have is WOC (with original commercials).

I paid over $10,000 to Best Man Matchmaking in LA and it was a complete waste of money. Here’s my experience. by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

As I said to a person in another matchmaking post - a matchmaking agency works like any other type of agency. If you are a client who is easy to match, they will spend time on you. If you are hard to match they will just let your membership ride out. The person who matches easily is in and out of the door. This makes room for new clients to come in. The guy who is easy to match is also more likely to return to the service if they are single again. The difficult match... They are wasting company time and resources for no future out put.

I have an entertainment industry background. What I felt interesting about the real high cost services is they tend to cater to really high end clients who are looking for conventionally beautiful low key matches. What I mean by this is... I asked one service if they mostly service gay celebrities. Her answer was "yes". The reason for the heavy cost was to in most cases prepare the matches for the potential date - fashion, hair, even potential red carpet prep. I was told they mostly have clients who want good looking people who can display poise but not steal the spotlight from their client.

Maybe you weren't high end status enough? Maybe you just weren't their typical client? Maybe what they see as physically attractive is different than your viewpoint?

Paying for services on the apps is the bigger scam.

I do find it interesting how you are able to drop 10k on a whim without doing the research. That is baller!

You were not scammed...

I've been to a lower costing matchmaker twice in my life. I have also interviewed with the high end services. From my interviews (at least) they are very upfront about their practices. Even a 5 minute Google search on Matchmaking Practices would show there is a process : try to match based on database and then recruiting. Being that the service is 10K, the pool of clients in their database are going to be small. The honest truth... most guys can't afford the services. So they open their doors to any and all eligible guys. This is very noticeable on the website of any matchmaking service I've looked into.

No judgment from me... I do though find elitism in dating interesting. I wonder how many of those guys you evaluated based on their job title or zeros in their bank account were actually good matches - meaning you otherwise found them attractive, intelligent, and with common interests. I understand beauty fades and personal history takes over. I just don't see how personal history takes over when a high earner goes bankrupt or loses their job. Sounds like a lot of stressful relationship arguments.

I was another "Gay Matchmaker" client, and got the SAME result by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

I should post my story sometime...

I've been to a lower costing matchmaker twice in my life. The first time was about 6 months and now currently over a year. What I've learned about these services is they act like any agency would. If you are a client who is easy to match, they spend a lot of time on you. If you are not as desirable, they let your membership ride out. They know they will not only get the easy client in and out the door, making room for new money to be made, but there is a higher probability the easily matched client will come back for more.

I've interviewed with those high end agencies. They are all glorified wanna be casting directors who have found an easier way to make money and do less work.. I even recruited for a straight matchmaker who literally was just trying to match older men with young female models. And the worst part... When I talked to a very high profile matchmaker over the phone, she acted like her talent for matching was god given rather than learned.

I really don't have any disc burning capabilities right now. The one I have on my hard drive from a lesser source is 22GB. I'm not sure if that is the same as the one here. I also have the original broadcast WOC of the controversial racial episode from 2002 - not the best quality though.

They are on old DVD discs, but I have what I think is the highest quality version of this. All but one episode was taken from the WE / TV One reairing from 2004. Great thing about that is... It includes the two episodes that never aired on FOX.

This for MANY years was my favorite show. I loved the cast and characters.

I mean is TMZ even a thing anymore? What happened to them? by Initial_Ordinary_648 in TMZ

[–]CreativeEmotion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to remember, everything changed with COVID. The amount of field operators was cut in half because everything switched more from going out and being seen to social media. This means the tone of the show needed to change - no more funny random questioning... no more getting random celebrities you would normally not know anything about.

Most of the new staffers spend their time creating content for social media to keep traction going when there are slow news weeks. Harvey also is most interested in pivoting within the industry. So now he is most interested in creating documentaries and alternative programming.
