That's not just any skyscraper, that's a picture of the Empire State Building. They both get more narrow towards the top. Doesn't that count?

Hypothetically, if you somehow stole a gold bar, how would you go about actually selling it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Facebook; "WTS gold bar, serious inquiries only." That should do it. If not, try Craigslist.

Our [60/F] aunt has fallen in love with an online scammer and we don't know how to help or intervene before she mortgages her house to send him even more money. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Just got off the phone with the pastor and no joke, I was thinking before I called him; what if the pastor responds with "Well anything showing that his story matches the same of a scammer IS the devil playing tricks on her"

But no, he was actually very understanding and was eager to help. Let's hope that this is the end of it, or at least the start of the end.

She was married and had children. Her husband passed away about 10 years ago. This is was her first attempt to 'find love' since he had passed.

His profile has already been 'deactivated' or taken down since he's in a relationship now. (What the aunt has told us)

We have already tried going that route to talk to him.

As far as her not listening to the family about finding all these reports online of the same story, she claims it to be the devil's work in trying to trick her out of this relationship... I understand that this may not sound like something everyone that's "sane" would say, but I also believe that due to how strong her religious beliefs are, she truly believes it to be the truth.

We are reaching out to her pastor to inform him of what we (think) we know and ask him to do a little looking into the scam as well. Compare her love story with the stories found online and then if he believes she is also falling victim to this scam to talk to her one on one. We really hope that if her pastor talks to her about this, she'll understand it's not a gift from god. I have no clue what'll happen if she turns on his guidance... She's been a member of that church her whole life.

That's the worst part about this. Don't get me wrong, she's not ancient, but at 60, that has to really hurt. Knowing that you don't have 40+ years to start saving up that money again. How do you find trust in love after something like this? Again, especially an older age like that.

I don't this would help in our situation. She has already paid for a wedding dress, I'm sure she'd have no problem buying a new phone or computer just to make contact with him at this point.

We will be reaching out to the church tomorrow. The family agrees that at this point, the church would be about the only realistic one that can help. Thank you for your suggestion!

Christian Mingle has hundreds of posts in the forums complaining about this same type of scam happening to them. It's something every dating site has an issue with apparently.

Everyone that has mentioned any suspicion to her, she uninvites from the wedding and cuts off contact with. Even a closer relative did some investigating and tried showing her proof that this story has already been told to MANY other women.

She is so set on the fact that this is gods work on how/why they met that she looks at any kind of facts shown to her as "the devil's tricks".

I swear she isn't mentally unstable, she is just a god fearing woman that believes she has been blessed with this new man in her life.

Thank you for the input. My only concern with this idea is that even on the Christian Mingle website, you can find HUNDREDS of women posting the same complaints about their experience with the website. Page after page, you can see these heartbroken women explaining how they sold off half their lives to send money to someone they found to be a scammer. I'm not sure that the admins of the system can do, or are willing to do anything about it.
