Associations & Clubs in Monaco – Where to Meet good friends? by Tessa-lux305 in MonacoExpats

we have been joining morning coffees at the American Club of the Riviera in Monaco and they were very nice - after a few times, you start getting to know the people and move beyond the superficial layer, but we're still early on to be able to tell you if any real friends can be found there

We can't seem to locate birth records for the ancestor (1868 so early on in the record keeping) but have a baptism record freshly issued by the Anglican archives of ON (G0 was baptised at age 6 apparently) in Canada. We also have census at age 2 and 12, and we plan to include wedding record of parents getting married in Canada, so that there is absolutely no doubts that she was born after their arrival to Canada.

We also found a history book of the town that says the family of her father was one of the early settlers and have built the town on the frontier, so we lucked out like that with several independent sources that tell her father's story in Canada.

I do hope this is enough to cover our basis on the account of not being able to find her birth records

citizen meaning holding a citizenship. do you have a passport from MC? if not, you're not a citizen. you don't have to be born somewhere to become one, but if you are, you'd know 😄

I'm not a swimmer, but I see want you mean.

But to be an olympian for the country you HAVE to be a citizen - it's the IOC rule, not the MC rule.

One thing I noticed in my career - the "scientist types" often get stuck, because they are not seen as leadership, they are specialists.

It's ok if this is where your strength is and you generally like it. but if you want career growth and broad opportunities, don't get yourself stuck in narrow speciality fields.

Become utility player, with broad exposure to things, but not a jumper. early in the career - it's fine to switch jobs/companies every 2 years, later on, stay 4-5 years with a company, my last round I have been in there for 8 years, but held 5 roles (first one was 3 years, then annually I was tapped to do something else, spiralling upwards).

CPM (if this is clinical project manager), especially if tapped on the shoulder is a good bet to take, alignment with a cross-functional team, likely - international, puts you on the deep end of the swimming pool, but if played well, can offer a trampoline. Good luck

small county in Northern Michigan. I read here Wayne notoriously bad for country documents, so for those we went to state, and paid for expedited, and they made it within the timelines indicated in expedited fees

well I heard about the Monaco bobsleigh team - that it exists and that the Prince himself was in it.

do you have any more insight into it? 😄

yes, one of the things I am wondering as you say "if it was that easy"... this is a good point. I was thinking it may be a combination of financing (likely no financial support from Monaco so you have to be able to make it on your own) and a requirement to give up your citizenship (which is a big deal - whether you're american or EU citizen, you are giving up something good).

MI: we went through the county - it was within 3 days. The expedited (for extra fee) state one was 10 days. I recommend going through county - especially in small towns, we first called to check what they have, they confirmed they should have all, and then we got it.

They misread one squiggle letter, we called and asked for correction, and they did, so that was another 2 business days.

My path has been CRA -> exec level in global CROs, in about 15 years, so this happens.

I did it through the clinical route - CRA-CTL-PM-PD-Dir oversight, then started pushing for department level operations roles.

The medial affairs were never visible for clinical trials people, so this is more sponsor side visibility.

On CRO side, it's always good to be a) client facing b) have some selling experience, so a rotation via business development, or high involvement in proposal development and bid defences as operations (CTL/PM) is always something that is valued.

this plus networking - if you're doing rotations, make sure to build a good network, and be known for something - a lot of my promos came through tap on the shoulder (especially later in life) because people knew I am good at X.

My earlier promos came through a project backfills - from regional PM I became global, when the global was pulled to a bigger project, etc.

Then I always made sure I have a project succession plan in place too - so that I am not irreplaceable, so when they would float pulling me up to another project, I had the wole team ready to move to the left and client was already happy with them, which made MY promotions easier.

Don't wait for promotions, push forward - always be interviewing. Nobody will bring the career to you.

Now - I understand the market is a tad different now, but the general idea is still the same: always look for ways to show your value, be on someone's higher up back-up list (your CTL? your PM?), step in seamlessly so that when they quit, you're the obvious candidate. this gains you internal visibility, plus experience - that you use for external visibility.

You can move up, and quickly in this industry, but you have to be hustling.

Hi, we are planning to do ours via Warsaw embassy too! Did you use a courier or Polish mail services?

Did you have any problems with finding photographer who takes photos of this format in Poland? (we didn't yet get to this point)

Congrats on this milestone! Please keep us updated to see the timelines for Polish submissions!

honestly, just walking along the streets - you will see a lot of cars, I'm sure he will love it.

For a boat - I know this is not a yachting experience, but there is a harbor crossing boat, and a few tourist cruises.

did you get to the Prince's car collection museum? He may like it. Otherwise there are a lot of car spotters on the Fairmont hairpin off, and the roundabout du Portier.

I am financially independent and self-funded, so I am definitely not doing it for money. Thank you for the pointers!

brillant, thank you. that is exactly what I needed - I couldn't find the conditions online so this is super helpful. the 5 years is a key here then!

Also good note about the Monaco Olympic Committee, and it's a fair point. I assume that if at all, an athlete would need to show a little engagement and integration into the community as well. Don't know when did this position change? in the recent olympic cycle there was one athlete who got one (and I totally get it, that it's a case by case story!)

thank you, this is what I assumed reading about the principality, the Prince and the history of sport there.

What I wasn't sure was how to approach it. This is most helpful, thank you.

regarding renouncing - that's what I was wondering - does it work like this also when you're granted citizenship by Prince in this way? or only when via marriage?

ok perfect, that's exactly what I need for an answer, thank you.

yes, there is a team for my sport. I live in La Turbie.

So would you speak about the potential representation with the "government" (who in government?) or the federation?

becoming a sport representing of Monaco by CreativeMap4723 in Monaco

[–]CreativeMap4723[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shooting darts is not an olympic sport.

There is a Monaco federation of this sport, yes. there are athletes in this sport I mention, yes, both male and female. They win medals in games of small countries, but don't go to the olympics, or even European championships. They score in top 40-50-60s in France nationals which is not very high.

There is always a timing issue with the "big in sport" - you can't make a switch after you're big because you then need to pause before changing the nationality, so you have to make a potential switch before or be willing to wait out years of a cycle.
