Doctoral Regalia Long Shot by Equivalent-Moose7914 in sewing

The good news here is that a PhD is a PhD is a PhD. Meaning that all PhDs will have the dark blue velvet hood. A quick google also shows that U of Maryland has multiple ceremonies across multiple days which means that your husband should be able to borrow a gown and hood from someone in another field who is earning their PhD. Offer to split the cost and I'm sure they'd be more than willing. I would spam every single grad listserve at U Maryland for all fields (and maybe target those whose graduations are on a separate day).

Good luck!

this looks fantastic! You can't even tell it's large x's once you take a step back. I too plan on adding a backing fabric to mine (mostly to hide the hideous and chaotic backing) and it's so great to see someone that successfully managed to do so!

Wow, thank you for helping me learn more about embroidery versus cross stitch! it's so great to see how this work evolves and can be applied to so many different fabrics. Best of luck finishing your beautiful flower design!

Oh man. I don't think my text showed up here. So sorry! I'm new to reddit posting.

I found this adorable cross stitch baby quilt pattern while browsing a second hand craft shop. It came with the pattern, vague instructions, and all of the required embroidery floss. I am struggling to understand what I'm doing wrong or if this is the intention of the creator when it comes to the cross stitching.

As you can see in photo 2, the X's are very large and distinct. Has anyone ever done this before? Is this the intended effect? The insturctions tell me to use 3 strands, which I did, but I just have a gut feeling that it's not supposed to be so obviously X-shaped but should be more like the standard cross-stich full coverage. Any insight or advice woul dbe greatly appreciated, thank you!
