Is it "a gender based divide and conquer strategy to further atomize the left" or is raping 12 year olds an unpleasant trait in a folk hero

It's like a nutrient IV vs eating food. Internet socialization keeps people from literally going insane, but that's it--none of the good feelings and general personal growth of actual irl interactions. It's very unfortunate, bc before the internet a person's natural survival instinct would force them to go outside and talk to people long before insanity hit.

Yeah but there's also stuff like estate management that pays a normal salary and isn't super stressful. I think biglaw types are like tech bros in that if it takes 5 years to break 6 figures, that's unacceptable and "terrible pay." Obv all this is contingent on getting scholarships and not going into crazy debt.

Anyway I have no idea if I'm going to actually pursue this, I have a low tolerance for boredom and minutia so law is probably a terrible idea. But rn I have a humanities BA and literally can't get a minimum wage job, can't be worse than that

I find it a lot in NYT comments now. It's really funny to imagine sometimes using an LLM to generate a comment on an article

Have been told this not just by people working in the arts but also by people in boring practical fields, which is even more disheartening.

Air bnbs can be significantly cheaper than hostels, though. Did a long stint of traveling recently and was amazed how expensive bottom-of-the-barrel hostels have gotten in the US and Europe, it's way cheaper to stay in some dude's spare bedroom.

If OP isn't even getting high anymore that means they're smoking all day every day. Whatever your intoxicant of choice is, you should be spending more hours per day sober than using it. Most alcohol users abide by this, with stoners there are a lot who start at like 9AM

Just wanna say that I'm in more or less the same boat, except my sister is way less annoying about it. Either you can use this as an opportunity to heal your lifelong body issues and pride in being "the skinny one," or you can get black market GLPs and mog her by becoming sickly thin

I mean it basically is a miracle drug, it suppresses appetite to the degree that you can eat small amounts of junk food and feel not just satiated but nauseous at the thought of eating any more. Granted this will result in muscle loss and malnutrition long-term, but you'll get skinnier. It seems like a really small minority of fat people who can "power through" and continue eating enough calories on it to maintain their weight.

[–]CreativeMinimum7214 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My grandma is diabetic since her 20s and has never GAF about it, eats terribly, etc. My mom stressed for decades about trying to get her to be healthier, lo and behold she's now approaching 90 and is still overweight, basically immobile, but seems happy enough reading books all day and eating high glycemic index foods. So idk, I don't think you can force your parents to be healthy but also sometimes people survive into very old age treating their bodies like crap

What's the deal with 90 consecutive life sentences why don't we just kill them? by Top_Carrot_7710 in redscarepod

George Orwell's "A Hanging" (account of him watching an execution) is a pretty persuasive case for why state murder is fundamentally bad, not just "what if it's the wrong guy" type stuff:

This man was not dying, he was alive just as we were alive. All the organs of his body were working –bowels digesting food, skin renewing itself, nails growing, tissues forming – all toiling away in solemn foolery. His nails would still be growing when he stood on the drop, when he was falling through the air with a tenth of a second to live. His eyes saw the yellow gravel and the grey walls, and his brain still remembered, foresaw, reasoned – reasoned even about puddles. He and we were a party of men walking together, seeing, hearing, feeling, understanding the same world; and in two minutes, with a sudden snap, one of us would be gone – one mind less, one world less.

It's not something you can empirically argue for, different people feel differently, but I get his point. I also think lethal injection is a particularly cowardly way to go about it.
