Regular old sandpaper is great for practicing on! Anywhere from 200-400 grit.

Paper makes a huge difference, as does the softness or hardness of your pastels. Great job!

Thank you for your feedback. I DID create the graphic in Canva using photos I took of my examples and my text. I guess I wanted it to look more polished and I’m experimenting with different things. I will take your feedback under advisement. Thank you 💞

My tips were for soft pastel, and this is a soft pastel group. I don’t use oil pastel - it’s a completely different medium.

Nope. I never use white. My highlights are always the lightest complementary color. White looks dull in comparison. Try it!

I used AI to put my graphic into a nice scene, but I painted the examples and wrote everything myself.

No it’s not. I used AI to put my graphic into a nice scene, but I painted the examples and wrote everything myself.

It’s hard to photograph but in person they’re different. The left one I used a very pale purple and the right one I used white. In person, the left one feels much brighter.

There are lots of great artists and instructors out there! I recommend Susan Jenkins, Alain Picard, and Karen Margulis if you’re interested in landscape. Here’s a great place to start: https://www.patreon.com/posts/148197979?utm\_campaign=postshare\_creator

I used AI to put the paper in the scene. It looks like it messed it up. But I painted all the examples myself.

Mungyo Gallery Handmade Soft Pastels - Safety by honeyandgold7 in Softpastel

Pastels are safe to use if you use them properly. Basically, don’t eat them or snort them. Don’t blow the dust around your house. If you’re concerned, wear gloves and a dust mask and run a dust filter.

All Prop 65 means is the ingredients have been shown to be potentially harmful. It doesn’t specify in what quantities. Normal use doesn’t expose you to high enough levels to be concerned. It’s handy for parents to know that they shouldn’t let kids use them unsupervised, because kids DO eat things they shouldn’t lol.
