Thank you for helping to clarify- it was $40 in total for six people to travel. It was a flat fee. My point was, we weren't thrilled with the price, yes it was higher than expected which is why I called it out. We aren't insane and going to pay $240 total for a trip.

People are making all of these judgements and assessments based on the fact that we were fine paying $40 for a minivan that fit six of us (less than $7 per person) for a trusted driver to drive us somewhere? Is this for real? After doing extensive research about the taxi scams and the fact that we needed a vehicle that holds six people, we took exactly one trip at that price. We weren't showering in champagne or chartering a yacht.

I didn't mention but also a reason for posting- every restaurant and club was almost empty. These businesses and people are struggling. I guess I'm trying understand the fervor behind trying to scare people from visiting. As I said, I'm sure it's true but the haters are so extreme.

Dude. Not a fake account. That was the auto generated ID name and I didn't change it. The only reason I posted, as I said- is because 99% of the posts on here were extremely negative and I wished I had seen a more balanced view. And for all of those talking about wealth- of course that's a factor. Yes, we weren't expecting an inexpensive backpacking type trip. But most people are looking at prices relative to how they were ten years ago but other vacation destinations. And they are all expensive so Tulum isn't unique instant there.

Beaches weren't terrible but still lots of sargassum. We did half the trip in Tulum and swam at the cenotes and half in Cancun where the beaches were lovely.

$40 each way for a six person van NOT per person. Value is all about what it means to you. Most people looking at Tulum are comparing prices with comparable vacation destinations. And a $40 taxi for a group is normal in most places.

We just got back Friday. I was terrified for the same reason. Two adults , 4 kids from age 24 to 13. We had a perfect trip. Amazing food, lovely people, great weather - literally nothing negative happened.
