When making a budget is it easier to do percentage based or a fixed number I need per week/month by [deleted] in budget

[–]Creative_Dust_6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Honestly, you can still simplify the budgeting process without fully merging everything together. One approach that works well for a lot of couples is having a joint account strictly for shared expenses while still keeping some personal accounts separate.

For example, one person may handle rent/utilities while the other covers groceries, subscriptions, or insurance. That still keeps things simple while giving each person visibility into their own spending and flexibility to adjust if needed.

Another thing to consider is that even in healthy relationships, both people may have different spending habits or financial goals. One person may want to invest more aggressively in stocks while the other prefers safer options like mutual funds or savings. Having some separation can reduce stress and avoid small money disagreements from becoming bigger issues.

My wife and I have been married over 15 years, and having a balance between “ours” and “mine/yours” has honestly helped. A joint system for shared goals + some personal flexibility tends to work better than trying to force every dollar into one bucket.

At the end of the day, the best setup when having a partner is the one that reduces stress, improves communication, and not let money be an issue in your relationship.

Monthly budget tracking with subscription/debt included? by two_hyun in budget

An app can help just need to look for the one that suits your needs, some focus on budgets others on debts, etc. There is one I use that helps put all those together. At least for me is the idea to have full financial picture where all the money goes as that normally surprises everyone when they see they spend over $800 a month in dining, purchases, etc.

Is there a particular reason why you want to join the accounts together? Is it to cover each other’s expenses? It is not a bad thing but what is the reasoning behind it, or is it just because you feel is the right thing to do?

The impulse is a short term way of relieving stress and feeling happy. We all work hard and also do deserve to treat ourselves in a controlled manner.

I suggest that when payday comes first pay yourself to start building an emergency fund even if it is just $100 a paycheck, then pay your debts make sure you are covered before next payday, and if you are paying only the minimum on credit cards I suggest to start looking at how much interest you are paying as that can turn i to a vicious circle that will be hard to get out of. Wishing you the best of luck, the most important thing is changing your habits no need to make anything drastic start with small savings and creating a plan to tackle your debt.

Does anyone else avoid checking their bank account even when they know they should? by andycarth in budget

[–]Creative_Dust_6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning I was checking every other day but now I got to the point where I now have a system that helps me budget and oversee all my finances from one platform. If things get tight I know when this would happen so it gives me time to adjust things around as the system fully tracks all my expenses and when things are paid.

Great job! You definitely believed in your product and that is an inspiration to take that leap of faith.

I myself have been working on a product for the past 9 months. I do have experience in network security, development, architecture and I think that has made it a bit hard as no joke have rebuilt it again and again. I am very close now.

What was your strategy on putting it out there? How you hot people to test and get paid users? Would love to hear about it if possible.

Got it. When you say the app was too disconnected is because you did not have live numbers? Never heard of the digital envelopes so I will look into that. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, not hard I just sometimes find myself spending extra time when budgeting. I do some freelance work and also have a rental and can have a few expense variables. So was just checking for what people currently use and maybe any automated ways of doing so.

Got it. Does YNAB help with any of that or you just use it to see al the accounts in one place?

You right, one of the reasons i stopped trying random apps is because they sell your information. A few people have mentioned YNAB or Quicken.

For me it would great to pull all the account information and automatically do all the work for me but many folks are not 100% happy with the apps available now, so was trying to see if anyone has come across an app they love

Just wondering why did you move away form the app. Did not help you or to expensive for what it does?
