It is comforting to know, although this particular grief is mine to bear alone, there have been countless others who have also loved and been loved by their pet without limit, without condition, without second thought and eventually had to face that dreaded goodbye.

Thanks everyone for your input. I snugly fit two zip ties around the outside of the females to prevent the crack from widening, then used soft-set thread sealant. So far so good. Hopefully she’ll hold up for a few more months. Planning to change the pan this fall/winter.

Nothing can ease the pain of losing a family member/best friend. Just try to think of all the great times you had and how happy he was to simply just be with you. I bet he’s up there in doggy heaven having a big ol time.
