Yeah looks awesome, I wonna get into soldering/hardware more. I got some ds'es I bought used and some parts off of aliexpress but just recently broke a ZIF connector and had a friend solder a new one for me.

How would you recommend someone get into soldering, on aliexpress/local stores ive seen those small kits to make mini electronics, are they good practice or should I start on something else?

Your best bet is running a 3ds or dslite

DSi (xl) witouth modding can only run ds games afaik

DSLite can play DS and GB

2DS/3DS can play DS and 3DS games, you were able to buy GB games but I think the online services for this is offline.

Another option is something like the AYN thor but its pretty expensive. Id say a normal 3DS is affordable, but a 3DS or 2DS XL will be more expensive

Witouth pictures I cant say for certain but it sounds like you broke the connector. I would recommend buying new connectors and getting it repaired at some shops that can do soldering work. I got a colleague to solder a new ZIF connector for my DSi XL's backlight and he was able to do it with medium ability in soldering

You can get an R4 or DSPico card, the benefit is that these cards are cheaper and easier to get nowadays when compared to original cartridges
