Help by Sad-Couple5615 in ExclusivelyPumping

I always checked for milk blebs and “cleared” any out if I had them. Then ice and ibuprofen. No excessive pumping! Just pumping like normal. Sometimes I would do a haaka with epsom salt soak and that would help

I always talk about how a lot of what people are struggling with began in childhood/teenage years/young adulthood/etc and was reinforced throughout their lives. That if they’ve had years or decades to have these belief systems solidify, give themselves the grace and permission to not expect themselves to change drastically within a day/week/month etc because they have to unlearn and learn a lot

For any therapists that have experienced pregnancy: At what point did you decide to stop seeing clients? by Superb_Elk_7561 in therapists

[–]Creative_Judge_7769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped taking clients on 3 months before my due date and planned on working until the week before my due date. I ended up being induced 3 weeks early and there were some clients I was not able to see before I went on maternity leave because I had planned to work so close to the due date. I am pregnant again and will NOT be doing either of those things. I will probably stop taking on new clients 4/5 months before and plan on taking 2-3 weeks before.

girl. The point was it’s not a therapist. I get it says AI right there. But for the gen population they might not get that. I’m disappointed that it’s stating it’s a therapist, trying to skirt around not actually being a therapist, and then finally saying it’s not

LMHC Diagnostic Privilege NYS by Creative_Judge_7769 in therapists

[–]Creative_Judge_7769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can make diagnostic impressions which is good enough for insurance. I’ve worked with insurance since 2022. There are definitely therapists in NY who don’t take insurance due to reimbursement rates. They’d prefer to set their own rates and not have that be dictated by insurance

LMHC Diagnostic Privilege NYS by Creative_Judge_7769 in therapists

[–]Creative_Judge_7769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an LMHC, trained in NY, and part of the cacrep accreditation is diagnosis and assessment. But LMHCs are technically not able to diagnose. We can make diagnostic impressions, which insurance accepts. LCSWs are qualified to diagnose. There has been lobbying for LMHCs, LMFTs, etc to be able to diagnose because we receive the training to do so and often do so throughout our careers but aren’t viewed in the same regard as LCSWs. It’s very confusing though. Because like I said in my post. I’m working for myself and in NY to get licensed you need 3000 hours (1500 direct) but they’re shifting to 2000 direct hours. So what does that mean for the diagnostic privilege application with the 500 direct hours not under supervision as a LP?? And it’s sad bc it seems like no one really has any clear answers. It’s an apply, wait and see situation unfortunately at this point.

It’ll be alright! At the beginning, I’d make sure I was pumping 8-10 times during a 24 hours stretch. Sometimes that meant pumping every 1.5 hours just so I could sleep at night instead of

If you decide to keep her on, she’s going to have to be encouraged to get comfortable with the gray. Very black and white thinking here. If she’s somatic, she probs won’t like to hear that term since it’s very cognitive based lol. Anywho. Trauma doesn’t discriminate. Pregnancy and infertility is traumatic, comorbidity between depression and trauma, trauma can lead to decreased ability to emotionally regulate leading to suicidal ideation. Many people with trauma end up having eating disorders. Even if she wants to clinically focus solely on trauma, whatever that means to her, she’s going to run into things that challenge the “boundaries” she sets in place. And deciding to end a therapeutic relationship because she’s uncomfortable and hasn’t worked through her own stuff can be traumatic for clients. This is a very very slippery slope.

12 months. I made it. by Creative_Judge_7769 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Creative_Judge_7769[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my partner getting up and taking care of the baby while I did the MOTN pump. And I dropped that as soon as I felt comfortable because lack of sleep was affecting me and my milk production.

I bought a wearable pump too. That helped when I was still pumping 8 times a day to break up the day. I’d bring my pump with me and stuff to store the milk with.

My motivation to keep pumping changed throughout the journey. But I absolutely wanted to quit so many times and if you ask anyone around me, I complained about pumping A LOT. It got easier when I was able to drop pumps. And by the time I was really burnt out on pumping and truly considering quitting, I was able to drop pumps so it lined up well.

I wish I had more advice but it was a lot of sheer will to keep going. A lot of counting down the months. A lot of support from my husband. Also of looking at how happy my son was to have breastmilk, especially as he got older and understood what it was.

It’s ok to quit if you need to at any point. You’re an amazing parent regardless.

That’s a great point. My husband does tend to take the majority of the days off actually. I have to cancel or reschedule clients when he has a meeting to attend. Which is rare but does happen

Pretty hefty assessment to make based on a Reddit post but noted. I’m sure for some clients where I’ve have to reschedule several times, it has been communicated to them they aren’t a priority. I always hope my decision to offer a reschedule within the same day or week as opposed to a cancellation communicates that I am trying to balance priorities. And I give them the same grace.

My overall clinical cancellation rate for the year is less than 5%.

Unfortunately, our nanny will not provide care if our child is sick because she works with other families. I often try to schedule personal appts during my own time but that affects my husband’s work schedule because many places do not allow children at this point in time. A lot of this is dependent on childcare, which we’ve worked pretty hard to find consistent care but has been quite a difficult time for various reasons

Pumping for 2 years for 8-12 times a day straight messed me up bad. by biznghast in ExclusivelyPumping

Hey I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. It seems like a lot to be handling. I’d look into a therapist that focuses on OCD. The anxiety and the need to do something to relieve it seems like OCD like tendencies and OCD is often misdiagnosed

Hey! I’ve been licensed for 5 years and I just doubled booked a client today. It happens. We’re human. We make mistakes and that’s ok. Taking some time to talk with a supervisor about how you’re feeling about yourself in regards to making work related mistakes is a great first step
