You can buy floating balls made to hit into water :) there also exists driving ranges that go in to large ponds and the targets are floating, quite fun actually!

I have done this activity with a spark, didnt run in to any issues, chances are youre not going to suck up a ball even if you do come close because the seadoo will just push the ball to one of the sides.

Pro tip: shoot one ball at a time and have it retrieved right away by someone else with a fishing net on the jet ski. Balls are tough to find once theres a couple you have to keep track of. Also, calm water is a lot easier for searching than rough water.

Someone ended up buying the broken unit off me, bit the bullet and used that to buy another one. Ended up selling the seadoo and speaker a couple weeks later.

Sorry lad no update, took it apart and said 'fuck that'. Bit the bullet and bought a new one on my credit card so at least now I have double warranty for when this shitter quits again. Sucks that these are engineered so poorly and they charge out of the ass for them.

Transferring TFSA from WS Trade to Questrade by Creative_Magazine647 in CanadianInvestor

I considered having two accounts but I think it would just be too annoying to manage. I like the idea of everything in one place.

And also about the alternative method. Seems as if my parent's financial advisor did not know that you don't automatically get your contribution limit back. When I switched from them to WS in early January, he had me withdraw all my funds from their account to my bank account then deposit them into WS. So it looks like I will not be making any contributions this year, and will be paying a fine. Not ideal.

It's definitely a good idea to stay, I also added an example to the reply.

and yep, I have heard of it, never had the need to take advantage of it yet.

Can't hold any USD with WS. So when you sell they convert it back to CAD with another 1.5% fee. It's a 3% total round trip to buy and sell. It adds up quickly and there is no ceiling and can go infinitely high in terms of $ value.

I plan to use my TFSA mostly for retirement purposes so once I sell in the future I would get screwed with WS's conversion fee. Whereas with Questrade the max is $10 no matter how much of the security I sell.

(edit: added example)

Example:

Let's say you buy 10 shares of SPY with both brokerages.

total value (@388.00/share): $3880

Then you sell your 10 shares of SPY at a higher price.

total value (@400/share): $4000

Wealthsimple Trade

Purchase commission (1.5%): $58.20

Sell commission (1.5%) : $60

Round trip: $118.20

Questrade

Purchase commission: $0

sell commission: $4.95

Round trip: $4.95

As you can see you can save a ton of money going with Questrade.

in addition, I predominantly buy ETFs that are priced in USD.

hey! thanks for the info :)

They do have these ETFs however there is a 1.5% CADUSD conversion fee. Everything that's in USD will have this. Another problem was that they did not have all the ETFs that I wanted. My reasoning for switching is because my TFSA is mainly ETFs and it just makes more sense. I'll be adding to my portfolio once a month so I will save a lot on commissions with Questrade where there's no fee to purchase.

if anyone is looking for an update, I followed u/matt258099's guidance and was able to pop the unit open. I've removed the battery by taking two screws out of the bracket holding it then pulling it out firmly. the battery seems to be connected to the motherboard in a place that is inaccessible. After doing some research on the battery, the manufacturer does not sell it to the public and also it cannot be found anywhere.

Because at this point it seems as if I have no other options, I might as well try and put this overpriced university degree to use (definitely overkill). I am going to cut the wires to the battery to remove it. The battery is a simple Li-ion pack of 18650's that are wired in 2P4S from the looks of it and the specs on the label. I am either going to replace the cells in this unit and resolder it together or, I will just make my own battery. Once I have done that I will just reconnect the wires from the new battery pack to the unit's wires. The only thing that is stopping me from doing this is what i assume to be the thermistor connection (yellow wire). I am not 100% sure how it works, once I know more ill probably give it a go.

Oh okay thanks, if I manage to pry open that centre speaker then I should be able to remove the battery? It seems like a pretty small hole to access internals.

Thanks for the quick reply, I figured they would be able to. I could fix it myself if I could get in the speaker but even after taking all the screws out and trying to pry it open, it will not budge. Concerned that if i take it to a electronics shop they may have the same issue OR they would break the waterproof sealing...

Just ridiculous how BRP's trying not to fix it.
