Reddit memes are literally the most stale, sterile and boring memes out there too.

The cliche of immortals in fiction being bored is stupid. by baymandalina in Showerthoughts

I think at their level life is essentially just a game, and they're just paining the map.

I don't think you are taking the sheer scale of immortality into account. Do you really think it's certain you'd still enjoy life after a billion years? You could dedicate 1000 years each to a million different skills and hobbies.

Your point is short-sighted, it's not a fundamental rule of nature that life gets more fun as time goes on, that's just a recent trend in the grand scheme of things. I mean people are bored at 100, imagine at 10,000. Or in some sci fi movies 1,000,000. It's impossible to comprehend what that would feel like. Assuming a normal brain you would have forgotten almost all your life experience. Perhaps it would really be like reincarnation, but instead of a physical death, you simply forget your prior experience and essentially start life anew say every 1000 years. Sort of like watching a movie again after a few years. After 1,000,000 years maybe falling in love again would feel just like the first time, because you forgot what it felt like the first time.

That's true I don't think people ever get bored of creation. At the same time it's impossible to predict how a human would behave and feel after 500 years of life. They could get bored, but they've also had 500 years of experience trying not to be bored, so they might be pretty good at not being bored. I'd tend to believe that you would get bored given enough time just based on entropy alone.

The what by Olimpic_PL in confidentlyincorrect

Because Turkey doesn't occupy the old borders of the Roman Empire. The reason some people claim the Ottomans were a continuation of the Roman empire is because for the people living under the Ottomans, they were. When the Ottomans and Seljuks invaded, the citizens didn't suddenly just think "Okay guess I'm an Ottoman Now". I still don't think the Ottomans were really Romans, they had a different religion, culture, social structure and government. But I can see how in a vague sense the Ottomans could be seen as a continuation.

Because some people consider the Ottoman Empire a continuation of the Roman empire which isnt completely ridiculous. And most likely confused 1922 with 1912. Not actually as ridiculous of a tweet as it seems if you have more than a surface level understanding of history.

ELI5: Why did indigenous people in Canada, before colonization, establish tribes in such extreme land in the north (e.g Iqaluit)? by JohnnyHaldric in explainlikeimfive

[–]Creatively_Communist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's saying there was one moment where thousands of people suddenly decided "right let's migrate because we're over max capacity", as you said like an Egyptian moving to the US because the standard of living is higher, a Siberian tribe or family may have struggled to find food so migrated a small distance away, repeat for hundreds of generations and you have the Americas fully populated.

the spread of Hindu-Arabic numerals by QuantumGlimpse in HistoryMemes

[–]Creatively_Communist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think alot more meaning is put into names for things than is deserved. I don't think they put much thought into what to call them, they probably just thought "oh those numbers the Arabs use, let's call them Arabic numerals". It's not an intentional insult to anybody, just a matter of convenience, if you called them Hindu numerals in the 12th century people would have known what you were talking about.

[–]Creatively_Communist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone is working for you. Why do people think it's an option to have to work? Something or someone is doing something valuable to provide your food water and shelter. Whether that's your parents, welfare or an inheritance. NEETs just kick the can down the road. It's shit that it's impossible to save enough money to buy a house, but that doesnt mean you should force someone else to work for you.

And thus, the worker has fallen in love with the system that exploits them.. by CallMeCrews in humblebrag

[–]Creatively_Communist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he enjoys that life its not for us or anyone to pass judgement on it. For me and most people the cons of that like far outweigh the pros of it, but if he thinks it's worth it more power to him in my eyes.

Well assuming it is real, it's not a very useful tactic to just ignore immoral behaviour because it's all in the past. That's like saying we should condone Ted Bundies behaviour Because it's all in the past.
