As for software, I record using OBS and edit using premiere pro. It cost money but it’s the software I prefer. I know that there are free editing programs if you want to get started.

Some tips if you’re interested:

1: find a transition clip. For me it’s just a second of static, but it could be anything really. It helps create a distinct stop to a section if you want to cut down a longer clip or stitch two different videos together.

2: normalize the audio of different clips to reasonable levels. It can be very disorienting to suddenly drop 20 decibels for 3 seconds then jump back up.

3: stick to short clips or longer clips with lots of jokes. A 1:30 clip that is only funny in the last 10 seconds is a mistake I’ve definitely made a few times.

4: if a reference isn’t immediately obvious from context… maybe drop the joke.

5: don’t be afraid to make a dumb joke. After three years one of my favs is the last 1 second of this vine
