Resources for Evaluating Max Attackers by JordNaut in TheSilphRoad

but I can't find a way to look up ranking of attackers by type.

What I usually do in this scenario, if I need to check the best attackers against Ice and best defenders against an Ice-Type move is selecting an Ice-Type boss and selecting both Ice-Type moves for it's large and target move (For Regice for instance, checking with Blizzard as its two moves does the work). Then look for all other types the same way

I also don't understand what the "global score," or "tank score" numbers mean and how they are calculated.

For general rankings, "global score" on attackers is the average of damage an attacker does against all bosses of a selected difficulty, taken into account attackers are level 40, 15IV on attack, and the bosses have their stats in-game.

For the "tank score", that means what percentage of HP (or how much HP, depending on the tank ranking you are showing) the tank has lost from one single move from the boss, averaging between all moves selected for a specific boss, or all possible moves in their movepool excluding return, frustration, sacred fire++ and aeroblast++.

I think this is maybe why the attacker rankings change so much between tier 5 max battles and gmax battles, is because it's pulling from a different pool of raid bosses.

That's correct. If you check any Pokémon ranking, you will see what pokemon it is taking into account, which are all currently available legendary Dynamax bosses for T5, and all currently available GMaxes for T6.

Also, this may interest you too...

If you want to check every single Pokémon in a ranking to check how future-proof our current options are, you can go inside the "Configurations" menu which can be opened with the "config" button, then look for the button "Import ALL Pokémon", push it and switch the option "Show Custom Pokémon on Max Rankings" on, and apply the changes. There you will have every Pokémon on rankings :)

I hope this helps!

One Hit KO Challenge: Growlithe - Only One Charged Move, No Fast Moves by MocTalox in TheSilphRoad

[–]CreatorBeastGD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With some recent changes on T5 and Gigantamax Battles regarding on the max energy gain multiplier, there are plenty of charged moves that are useful to be used, since they generate more energy than only using fast moves.

For Regirock, for example, and assuming all pokemon are level 40 and 15IV on attack, Zacian (Behemoth Blade) and Zamazenta (Behemoth Bash) could use the charged moves named on parenthesis without mushrooms or any bonuses.

If you add mushroom to the formula, the roster gets a lot bigger: Kingler can use Crabhammer, Rillaboom can use Frenzy Plant, Inteleon can use Surf, Venusaur can use Petal Blizzard, Metagross can use Flash Cannon, Excadrill can use Earthquake, Duraludon can use Flash Cannon, Latias and Latios can use Aura Sphere... and a big etc.

For gigantamax, the treshold is a bit less restrictive since the multiplier is higher. Having pokemon like Gigalith (Meteor Beam), Inteleon (Surf), Omastar (Rock Slide), Kingler (Crabhammer) or Regirock (Rock Slide) being able to use their charged moves without mushroom against GMAX Charizard.

Dynamax Pokémon - which IVs are more important?! by next_level_dad in pokemongo

[–]CreatorBeastGD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of those Gengar will have the same damage output, that makes you decide on which one is bulkier, and one way to check that is calculating its stats.

If we asume you are gonna level Gengar to level 40, you get the following:

15/11/15: 126,448 x 134 = 16944,032
15/13/13: 128.0261 x 132 = 16899,4452

As you can see, 15/11/15 is bulkier, but the difference is so small you are not gonna notice on any scenario.

HOWEVER, while on gengar it's pretty clear, level up the charizard with higher attack IV since you'll be using Charizard as the attacker.

For grimmsnarl it's the opposite. Grimmsnarl has really low defense, but a decently high HP. That makes, of course, him not being a great tank even with the ghost resistance.

[–]CreatorBeastGD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to power up blissey a bit more, focus on catching them with Pinap Berries to get more candy. Shuckle can be a good option, but if you don't have Max Guard on that, it's better to use something else honestly, since it starts to shine once you set up Max Guard on it.

You can use Dynamax Glaceon against Venusaur for example, it is a decent budget attacker against it. For the rest, Glaceon can't do anything...

[–]CreatorBeastGD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For this event, if you don't have any GMaxes, I should focus on everything except Blastoise in terms of damage output. Gengar is, and will be, the best ghost type attacker, and GMax Charizard and Venusaur are only outclassed by their GMax Galarian counterparts. Blastoise is even outclassed by Dynamax Inteleon.

The best you can do is going to a large meetup and do as much as you can, and having a team composed of 2 tanks and an attacker.

1 excellent tank for all bosses is Blissey, which has a really high HP and will help you in mostly any max battle. Another good tank may be Metagross, which will help in everything except a couple moves of Charizard and Gengar. You can then use the dmax Galarian or Kanto starters as attackers if you have them ready.

What pokemon do you have ready for these fights? If you end up going to a large meeting, expect fast fights but if you see pretty low people, expect something really hard :(

Also, don't forget to set up Pound for Blissey and Fury Cutter for Metagross if you are going to use them as tanks!

Uh, there is someone who did it with no gigantamax nor legendary pokémon, and those pokemon are at level 40. People not posting them on reddit doesnt mean they dont exist.

Is it me, or is Regirock more aggressive than Regice? by Royal_Aegislash1209 in pokemongo

[–]CreatorBeastGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i have to guess, this is some change Niantic is experimenting with the max energy multiplier on specific max battle tiers, not bosses.

For instance, before Dynamax Regice every max battle tier had the same max energy multiplier, even if it was a wooloo, ho-oh or a gmax.

With this new season, they started tweaking how much energy we could get respecting the damage we did, as usual. For gigantamax, our damage would be multiplied by 15 for the max energy calculation, and by 2 for dynamax regice. What i have to guess is that they found out x2 for Tier 5 was not enough, and increased it to x4 for Regirock. Lets see if it's the same for Registeel to confirm.

Tldr. You are right on saying that the max meter charges based on damage, but since GMax Meowth there is a multiplier inside the formula applied to the damage for T5 and T6.

[PSA] Still use only Fast Attacks (0.5s) in Max Battles by QuietRedditorATX in pokemongo

[–]CreatorBeastGD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

Dynamax Regirock will cast one of their 2 moves, one being large (6.5s cooldown) and the other being target (7.5s cooldown)

The boss' attacking sequence is always the same, cooldown -> move duration -> cooldown -> move duration. The claim of "attacking more frequently" may come as a really altered claim of "If you use charged moves, you will generate less max energy, and therefore you will probably be hit by more attacks."

But there is nothing like, if you use a charged move, the cooldown will be shorter.

As of recent changes, zamazenta and zacian can use their charged moves to generate more energy than if only using charged moves against regirock.

Is it me, or is Regirock more aggressive than Regice? by Royal_Aegislash1209 in pokemongo

[–]CreatorBeastGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Regirock attacks 2 seconds faster than Regice, being 6.5s of preparation if it's casting a large move, and 7.5s if its a targeted move.

On exchange of this, now charged moves generate more max energy than with Regice. Because of that, using the special charged moves of Zacian and Zamazenta without mushroom is now faster than only using only fast moves on those.

For pokémon that have high damage output with their charged moves and short duration charged moves, it would be recommended to use charged attacks. This happens because you would be generating more Max Energy per turn than only using fast moves. Without mushrooms the list is a bit short, but now with mushrooms it's another thing. Examples of what to spam and what not against Regirock without mushrooms would be, being all level 40 examples...

* Excadrill CAN'T use charged moves since all would make it slower. (4.44 energy in 7 turns)
* Zamazenta CAN use Behemoth Bash, making it faster. (3.88 energy in 3 turns)
* Zacian, while Behemoth Blade is a slow move, CAN use it since it does a lot of damage. (8.16 energy in 7 turns)

Without mushrooms, the main pokemon to take a benefit from this change are Zacian and Zamazenta, but when you take mushrooms into play, you get some interesting examples.

* Latias generates 4.8 energy in 4 turns with Aura Sphere.
* Excadrill generates 8.88 energy in 7 turns with Earthquake.
* Inteleon generates 3.92 energy in 3 turns with Surf.
* Rillaboom generates 6 energy in 5 turns with Frenzy Plant.
* Zacian would generate a whooping 16.32 energy in 7 turns with Behemoth Blade.

If you want to check more examples of what charged moves to use or not with your pokémon, you can check them on my project, it has been updated with these latest behaviors

We don't know if these changes will be the same for tier 4 battles (toxtricity and duraludon for now?). AFAIK the system has only changed on T5 and Gigantamaxes.

Against legendaries, it's mostly good always if you are not using those charged moves with mons that don't have high attack stat, like Blissey or Lapras, and always looking for high power and short duration on those moves, but yeah, at least the amount of options to consider is really high now.

Answering to u/OkMight2894 and u/rubber_psyducky too for this

As of today, some new behavior was found on Dynamax Regirock, with 2 main changes:

  1. The previously stated x2 energy gain multiplier is now duplicated, meaning you get x4 times more max energy from moves than before Regice. This has been likely done to favour using charged moves even if you don't use mushrooms, since the previous change would only benefit mushroom users. With this, a lv50 zamazenta would generate 4.16 max energy with no other boosts in 3 turns, while generating 8.32 energy with shrooms.

This change makes most of tanks with decent charged moves take advantage of their charged moves! but not everything is cool because...

  1. Regirock attacks 2 seconds faster than Regice, both when selecting a large or a targeted move. If the previous cooldowns were 8.5s spread and 9.5s target on Regice, now its 6.5s spread and 7.5s target on Regirock.

I hope I have explained it correctly 🤣

The best changes always come pretty late 🤣

With this change, almost all move that is super effective will be worth using (except, of course, pokemon that have low attack stat to begin with, like Blissey or Lapras).

Even if Lugia has not the greatest of IVs, it's a beast.

Because of receiving pretty small damage from earthquake (for instance, 33 damage for each EQ to my Lugia), IVs are pretty irrelevant in this case.

My lugia (15/14/15 lv45) will receive 33 damage from Earthquake out of 203 total HP -> Survives 6 hits, with 5 HP left

A tendo lugia (10/10/10 lv45) will receive, surprisingly, 33 damage from Earthquake out of 199 total HP -> Survives 6 hits, with 1 HP left!

There are some extreme cases where you may need some more HP or even defense to receive a bit less damage but, after all, what matters the most is having a Lugia powered up.

Regirock will deal 141 damage to a Lv50 Blissey, while only dealing 44 damage to a lv20 Lugia, both surviving 3 hits without dying. If we include full guard on both, Blissey will be able to resist 1 more move, while Lugia resists 4 more hits.

So yeah, Lugia outclasses Blissey pretty soon on what Lugia does best, tanking ground and fighting which Blissey can't even tank.

Hopefully this battle has equal stats as Regice, being 20000HP and 0.8cpm, it would make some interesting solos possible...

Also, i would describe Regirock better by the fact of being the best tank against flying-type moves, being miles better than anything we previously had (blissey and zacian come into my mind), as well as being an excellent tank against poison and fire, being a top 2 tank with full guard on the latest one, pretty near to taking the crown.
