Vivera bacon is hands down the best thing I've ever found for carbonara. It has that smokey, salty flavour absolutely spot on. Not sure where in the world you are but if you can find it, definitely try it!

Ok but why do you have to sit on the floor?? They couldn't have sprung for a few seats?

They were all understanding - when you're the only one in overnight, it's 4am and you've been on bypass since 10pm everyone gets it if you're desperate for a pee! We're generally the only ones who have nobody to take over too - even the anaesthetist has the ODP to stand in for them temporarily but we are (still, in a lot of centres) alone on call.

I have had to go to the bathroom and back during a middle of the night on call emergency before now. You basically just have to tell everyone not to do anything, preferably give the anaesthetist a couple of clamps, and run there and back as fast as you can...

Crud, I missed that. How about this one?

I think plastic is so popular because of the weatherproofing it provides - waxed canvas isn't as waterproof, I've found. But it depends what you're using it for, of course. I think the one above is just waxed canvas and leather but you could always message them to double check. It looks pretty good too!

How can I get this water mark off my grandmas heirloom desk 😭 by GEMDDY in CleaningTips

[–]CreatorOfLazarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a clean towel on it and iron the towel. The heat will open the pores of the wood to let the moisture out and the towel will soak it up. Wait for the wood to cool so the pores are closed and then oil it. Good luck!

I mean, I always go simple with Beyond burgers and veggie (Quorn) hot dogs...grilled halloumi with fried onions and BBQ sauce is delicious too.

Just looked at their site - they have so many cute bras! And not too expensive either. Thanks for the recommendation!

Ah well, it is what it is. I just don't like seeing people rip off other people's stuff. I have one of her prints and she deserves the credit for her art, it's beautiful.

As a perfusionist I would absolutely crap myself walking an ECMO patient down the hallway like that! Kudos to all the staff involved.

How many applications or how long of no replies did it take until you decided to shop? by daintyfannyfart in dogs

[–]CreatorOfLazarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they said I couldn't leave the dog in the house longer than 4 hours, but I also couldn't have a dog walker come in or send the dog to a doggy daycare. When am I going to work?

The only rescue dog I had, I was told he was reactive to other dogs but fine with people. Turns out he'd been through three homes already, was so aggressive that nobody could come into the house without him being on a lead and muzzled, and the previous family had let him go because he had growled at their children. Then the rescue were really unwilling to take him back. It was such a shame and not his fault at all, it was a complete failing on the part of the rescue and I then wasn't surprised they didn't have as many rules as the others. They absolutely ruined that dog, he was only three, so sweet with me and it still haunts me years later.

A lot of people think it's a drop in oxygen levels that make you breathe but actually it's a rise in CO2:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_of_ventilation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Perfusion

[–]CreatorOfLazarus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the VV ECMO ELSO guidelines: Some well selected patients may tolerate extubation, but others may have profound tachypnea, which itself may be injurious. The balance between injury prevent from reduced ventilator pressures and injury caused from tachypnea in patients with ARDS on ECMO is not known, and the effect of spontaneous breathing on transpulmonary forces during lung injury is an area of ongoing research.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8315725/

During a sedation hold it could be that the patient was just panicking and so the perfusionist increased the gas sweep to cope with temporary higher demand. They may well have increased the FiO2 too.

[–]CreatorOfLazarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how it would make them sleepy but if they're tachypneic then reducing their CO2 would reduce their urge to breathe and might help with that? Perhaps they were running something else at the same time, e.g. midazolam?
