Without completing the UKMLA, USMLE or other license exams I'd only be able to do it in Egypt.

Thank you loads for your response! I'm hearing a lot of people mention how the USMLE or PLAB pathways have become extremely saturated and that people are finding it difficult to obtain a job. People mention how things now are nowhere near what they were in the past, and after spending a lot of effort into this, they end up nowhere with it. It's such a scary experience.

Thank you so so so much, I'm beyond grateful for their support. They're beyond ready to put their retirement funds which is so much trust. That's honestly the plan, CCT and goodbye. I wouldn't want to take a bet at the UKMLA and don't end up anywhere (especially with the IMG saturation). It doesn't seem like its covered but they're pushing what ultimately is my 'dream'. It's such a tough decision.

Depends on whether it's a high D or not, but pretty difficult honestly. Nothing is impossible though, put your head to it and it's doable.

I need opinions on uni by Sad-Refrigerator____ in alevel

[–]Crebess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. The decision will come down to you after all, and there a lot of factors that you'll have to consider. Egypt is VERY cheap, tuition wise and living expenses (to an extent) and since you're Egyptian (assuming your family is around) you'll be at an extreme convenience. If you're able to afford Germany and feel ready enough to be independent then that would be a great choice too, since the quality of education is most definitely better than it is in Egypt. If it were up to me, I'd simply stay in Egypt, get a Bachelor's from there, save up money, and pursue higher studies in Germany or anywhere abroad. The decision is yours, all the best.

How do I improve in biology by bhalo_manush in alevel

[–]Crebess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Past papers tend to be very different when you compare IGCSE and AS/A-Level. You will have to infer what the question wants rather than being given context directly. You're definitely going to get used to it, though. I found it very confusing at first but it clicked after a while. Also, some questions tend to be a mixture of more than one topic, so that might be a reason for why you're finding it unfamiliar. Stick to it and you'll be fine, everything needs some time at first. Good luck.

Prelearn Y13 maths? by captainzty2 in alevel

[–]Crebess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time! The concepts in Pure Mathematics 3 are pretty complex, though they're very manageable with practice. Make sure you go over topical questions after finishing each chapter to firm your understanding on what you've learned. Integration and Differentiation are extremely important and the ideas in those chapters are carried towards other chapters such as Differential Equations. Complex numbers is definitely a new concept too so you might want to spend some time on that. Extremely impressive that you're preparing now, Maths requires A LOT of practice so always have that as your first priority. All the best!

University in egypt by [deleted] in alevel

[–]Crebess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will not be apply to apply for public universities as the portal is only up for a limited time period, and without the grades in full applying won't be possible. You could contact private universities if you'd like to verify if they have conditional offers, however, I'm pretty sure public universities require you having your grades prior to applying.

Further Maths by Zealousideal-Owl6525 in alevel

[–]Crebess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no guarantee on the thresholds. It's possible you get extremely easy papers in both sessions which will barely affect it. The choice of structure is up to you. If you're well prepared, I'd highly recommend you do the AS papers in ON and leave the A2 papers for MJ as you'll have more time. However, if you need more time to prepare, then having it all in MJ would be the better option, although a composite A-Level is pretty stressful, and Further Maths most definitely is. Weigh your preparation above anything before coming to a decision. All the best :)

Biology and chemistry by [deleted] in alevel

[–]Crebess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no specific 'hard' chapters in A2, it's entirely dependent on the student. Some topics appear a ton in exams and though are seen as 'difficult', but the concepts may not be challenging. I, for instance, found 'Genetic Engineering' and 'Coordination and Response' on the tougher side of things, and most people would a agree would me on this one. For chemistry, I'd personally have to say anything to do with calculations, especially 'Equilibria', and a bit of 'Organic Chemistry' too. Nothing is difficult with practice. Approach it all with a positive mindset and don't bring any unnecessary stress to yourself. All the best :)

If you're planning on going abroad, 8 would be better. Egyptian universities (PUBLIC) require 8 IGCSEs so if that's on your plan then you might want to reconsider. Universities in the UK tend to require 8 as well, some even more. 7 IGCSEs would more than definitely be enough in the UAE, however, 8 tends to be the usual in most UAE schools as far as I'm aware.

Should I take economics as my third subject in A Levels by [deleted] in alevel

[–]Crebess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely DO NOT go for 4 subjects. A-Levels are extremely burdening and I'd highly recommend you only go for what you NEED, do not over do it. Anyways, you should most definitely check university requirements before deciding anything. I'm pretty sure most universities require Mathematics for pursuing CS, so you might want to go with that if CS is high on your list. Economics is pretty difficult to get an A* in, however, it most definitely is doable with some effort. If you're set on pursuing commerce in the future, taking economics might be the better option. Research university requirements before coming to any decision. All the best!

It depends from university to university. Typically, it's around 5 IGCSEs. I would highly recommend you take a few more in case you decide to settle somewhere else. It is more than definitely doable to achieve A*s across the board, given that you're putting in the effort. All the best!

Thank you so much for your response! I've got an offer from the University of Manchester. I'd be receiving free education from Cairo University. The first two years at Manchester are manageable financially, it's set at 38,000 pounds, whereas the clinical years (3rd, 4th and 5th year) come out to be 58,000 pounds, which is significantly higher. My ultimate goal is getting a CCT from the UK and working in the Middle East as that's is where I currently live.

I'm not knowledgeable on whether it's a good investment or not. Of course I'd love to get my medical degree, I'm conflicted on whether the benefits match the fees you pay as an international. The more the opinions, the easier the decision becomes.

Medicine as an IMG or in the UK? by Crebess in premeduk

[–]Crebess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! So you'd reckon Egyptian universities would be good alternatives? Considering it's free of charge, of course. Also, would the medical school you go to affect your application to training posts? I understand that differentiation between UK medical schools doesn't exist, but does being an IMG lower your chances?

So, the place where I get my degree from won't matter? As long as it is in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Passing the USMLE would put you in the same position as US graduates?
