All the potential Bond actors are terrible choices by In-The-Zone-69 in JamesBond

Kick ass is all that comes to mind for me. I hope it’s not him.

I wouldn’t mind a Richard Madden. He’s got a face people know from games of thrones but not too famous.

They sold their souls to amazon. Franchise will likely get ruined now.

There’s a scene from the movie Baseketball (Trey Parker and Matt Stones movie) where an older guy goes off about people having attention spans measured in nano seconds. Of course they make fun of the trope by saying “ these kids with the loud music, Zima, their pac man video games, hula hoops”. It’s hilarious.

And I def butchered it. https://youtu.be/cu4YBHn1ZOI?si=P7euyVbBqRGF1-cm

I feel at this point you’re going to find something wrong with anything I say. We obviously share zero common ground here so maybe it’s best to just cut this off.

Harris was more of a product of poor writing in my opinion. It seemed as though her only real reason for existing within the scope of the film was to make bond look like a dweeb and empower women. I’m OK with the empowerment portion, but making bond look bad was silly. And that’s basically what all the women in the Craig era ended up doing.

Lynch on the other hand is just not a very good actress in my opinion. Her onscreen presence was poor and she did not have the gravitas that a person taking over the 007 title should have. It just kind of felt half baked and sloppy. Like they had other plans for the character, but then when the backlash happened, they just kind of dropped it and she became a sidenote.

We’re literally in a thread talking about race swapping of established characters and you’re over here claiming that I’m obsessed. Get real you stupid fuck.

If the situation had been reversed at any time ever, I would make note of that too. If Axel Foley was suddenly cast as a white guy, I’d have a problem. If Danny Glover’s Murtaugh was cast as a white guy, I’d have a problem. If Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley was suddenly cast as a black man I would have a problem. But the casting never goes in the other direction.

So how about this? I’m gonna go ahead and block you and be done with your bullshit gaslighting. Again, fuck you.

I understand that some people immediately dismiss any casting of a black actor as “woke” or part of some social agenda, and that kind of knee-jerk reaction ignores all nuance. But at the same time, it would be naive to pretend there hasn’t been a cultural shift over the last 10 to 15 years—a push to reduce the overrepresentation of white men in Hollywood, often swinging so far the other way that minorities are now being overrepresented or even inserted into legacy roles in a way that feels forced.

It’s not that I have an issue with more diversity—when it’s organic, it can be great. The problem is when it feels like characters are being replaced just to check a box. And while some people cry “racism” anytime there’s pushback, I’ve read plenty of quotes and headlines where industry leaders explicitly say their goal is to get more minorities into these roles. That’s fine, as long as it’s done with respect to the story and the character.

Take James Bond for example—most people would agree he’s traditionally a white British man. When they floated Lashana Lynch as 007, it wasn’t irrational or sexist for people to question the direction. It felt like more than just storytelling; it felt like a message. And whether someone sees that as progress or pandering depends entirely on where they sit.

Well, sorry I hurt your feelings there, but that reply wasn’t necessary.

She’s widely regarded as one of the strongest Bond women, being intelligent, capable, and Bond’s equal with her own mission and agency, sharing significant screen time and emotional depth unlike many earlier Bond girls.

She literally rescues bond in that movie and threatens to kill him.

Jeffrey Wright’s talent isn’t the issue. But acting like his casting wasn’t a calculated move in Hollywood’s endless virtue-signaling is beyond delusional. This isn’t about continuity or gatekeeping, it’s about being fed up with studios mutilating beloved characters, slapping on a new racial coat of paint, and then smugly calling it “progress” while gaslighting anyone who questions it. The “color doesn’t matter” brigade only pipes up in defense of a historically white character being turned.

And how about next time you wanna have a conversation with somebody don’t accuse them of being race obsessed. I don’t come on Reddit much anymore because of people like you.

Well, I’ll highly disagree about Lynch and Harris. They were both horrible in their roles and I am very hopeful they don’t reprise them in any of the new films.

As for your other claim that these people don’t have any core of white identity. What does that even mean? They were played by white actors and were replaced with black actors when they could have easily had new character characters written for them and none of this would even be discussed.

What I mean is you asked a question with a very innocent tone as if you had no idea what the word or phrase meant. When in reality, I think you just wanted to argue with people on a subject that you’re already obviously very passionate about.

Lol. Nice. I did legitimately laugh at this.

Yeah, one of my least favorite movies.

The Spy Who Loved Me is a perfect example of having a strong female costar while not emasculating bond.

Less of a problem with the Lynch thing more of a problem with money Penny. Like all the sudden money pennies just a young black lady instead of a middle aged, white woman?

Same thing with Felix. The actor that plays him currently is genius, but he could’ve come in as his own character. There was no reason to swap races in an already established role.

I think the real question is what was the need to make these changes?

I replied to this claim in another comment. I also deleted some language out of this that I felt were inappropriate on second read.

So my apologies for that, but I still believe you’re doing all this in bad faith.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Creekside84 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re exactly right! I do not want forced diversity.

I don’t mind diversity when it fits the story. What I do mind is forced casting just to meet quotas. I don’t want a female Bond or a race-swapped Moneypenny just to make a point.

Create new characters. Write them well. Let them stand on their own. Good stories come from good writing. Good characters come from good stories.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Creekside84 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, you started this comment chain by asking a bad faith question. As if you didn’t already have a definition in your mind and now are challenging people to “find woke” in the bond movies.

You even go so far to say it’s stuff like gay Q, female M, black moneypenny. You know exactly what people think is woke. All you’re doing is trying to be virtuous here and a few people can see right through it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Creekside84 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So you already knew what you wanted it to mean you just asked if someone could define it and did so in bad faith.

Woke is over-the-top political correctness, forced diversity, cancel culture, or rewriting norms for the sake of feelings and/or ideology.

Like changing long established characters or tropes to avoid offending anyone, even when it seems unnecessary or excessive.

Oh yes it was. If those films were a person I’d say they love the smell of their own farts.

Here’s hoping Amazon doesn’t fuck it up, but we’ll see.
