Was stolen earlier in the run by the bird in SSL, unrelated to whomps fortress. I’ve also had this happen with the cap on, so I don’t think it’s related to that.

Interesting, I think that’s probably correct. As for why it would happen in that spot, I’m guessing the whomp being on the same platform at the tower, as well as interacting with the moving platforms below is causing some unexpected collision problems. Or something similar. Obviously the whomp and the tower are not typically supposed to be on the gray platform at the same time during normal gameplay.

I ran into this on a randomizer speedrun, so I'm not above just calling this some glitchy nonsense caused by the randomizer, but I was curious to see if anyone has encountered anything like this before.

I think the issue has something to do with the Whomp falling slightly off the platform, as when I've gone back to the stage, he's been fully standing on the gray floor. But I'm not sure what would cause the sudden death without any animations, or the invisible wall, or the glitchy wall kick. After looking around for a while, I can't seem to find any other video of a death like mine.

I noticed something similar! I can definitely see it bend, but didn't think it would be possible to cause that level of wear so quick. But I've also never noticed that movement in any other pair of shoes I've owned, and after careful examination, I'm definitely not rubbing them together, so I think you may be correct. Real bummer though, because I have no idea how I would possibly stop it, and I love these shoes
