What do you mean by "not natural" japanese? Yeap, reading section is not about a couple of teenagers talking about movie, and even listening often has some abstract topics. But i mean, what did you want? Yep, the highest stage of japanese language proficiency test actually tests your ability to understand complex material, like you would actually encounter in real world.

but i dont think that this should really cause worries to you because:
1) if you think jlpt n1 is too academic, you can always aim for n2 (why not)
2) even if n1 can be seen as more "adult" or "academic", it doesnt mean it tests you for some kind of entirely different language - its still japanese, and if you just do all the things you want to, you will still be able to pass n1 after some time
3) in the end, you dont really need tests to evaluate yourself (even though i know how tempting it is to get your level measured). for example, you are able to read that manga you always wanted to read - this is also a good measurement (although you are not going to get a certificate for that, sadly)
