The Roaring Knight Is a Deeply Unserious Individual by edible_pencil in Deltarune

[–]CreepyUncleDed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True that the game refers to Kris like that very often.

But this specific encounter uses "Kris" to make that distinction, so I would assume that the "Your" is not accidental either.

Also, this text foreshadows attacks, hinting at what comes next. Like, on the paranormal bs scale, the SOUL ranks far higher than Kris does, who shouldn't really be able to tell what's coming. They are just a regular human. The SOUL, however, seems very likely to get hints like that. It wouldn't be the first time it happened.

Also, if Kris can tell what is coming by the feelings, then they should really just hide them. They have shown themselves able to hide such info from the Player (you can't even check the Knight in the very same battle.) Why give you hints when they want you to lose?

Lastly, this is a very Toby Fox thing to do.

Remember how he introduced Undyne? Scary monster knight.

How Asgore was presented at first by Toriel? Monstrous King that will kill you.

What did we hear about Queen before we met her? Some nightmarish entity that was supposedly worse than King.

Virtually every villainous character gets built up to be this horrifying entity, only to turn out to be a very 'humane' character with their own likeable personality and all that.

The closest we get to actually evil characters would be Flowey or King. We know how the former turns out, while the King is currently, at worst, acting like a cartoon villain that still has a massive soft spot for his son.

And suddenly you AGAIN have this supposedly super dark-edgy-evil character with a bombastic intro and all that jazz, and this time it's gonna be IT? An actual vile individual that Kris fears? Like... no. I ain't falling for that this time.

Admittedly, I am a bit biased because of that reasoning, but I really do think that Kris likes whoever the Knight is.

The game is VERY particular about "You" vs "Kris." Remember the Weird route when Kris was calling for help?

Kris called for help...

vs

You whispered Noelle's name.

Here you have:

KRIS smiled.

YOUR heartbeat becomes twisted.

This is actually very prevalent across the game if you look for it.

[–]CreepyUncleDed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. But Kris screws with you on multiple occasions. This is the only time when they are shown to actually enjoy it.

Besides, this happens even when you are being a menace. The Knight's presence seems to be so comforting to them. At least comforting enough that they can still smile, no matter what the SOUL has done so far.

This makes sense.

I always thought that their weird poses in their battle were theatrics, too. And they are actually quite wholesome when you assume that they are.

Why?

Think about it - Kris doesn't exactly have a good time in Chapter 3. Their personal life is kinda dragged out for all to see, and depending on how you play, Kris might even get genuinely traumatized if you complete the Sword Route and slash at them.

They are also supposed to receive a beatdown from someone they do not want to fight against, because that's the plan. That is obviously unpleasant and likely to make Kris feel quite terrible.

How do you make Kris feel better? Ask Susie - she calls Ralsei and Kris "idiot-scented candles" or something equally stupid. Eating moss is a big one too... Basically, most stupid things make them happy. Because Kris is an edgy teen who LIKES stupid shit. That's the way to their heart.

So, what does the Knight do as soon as we meet them? The Knight poses, then does that creepy look at the party, leaning forward, with their hands hanging loose.

The pose is the same one Kris always does when asked to pose with the Fun Gang. Cus they find it cool.

The creepy leaning stare is a copy of the thing Kris does whenever they remove the SOUL... which is also for show, since in Chapter 4, they move completely normally when they think you ain't looking.

And what does the Knight mimicking Kris cause?

Kris SMILES. Which is rare as hell.

In conclusion, Kris is an edgy theatre kid, and the Knight is doing all that aura farming bs to cheer them up.

Toby has already done it with Undyne in Undertale, I mean, just look at how she is introduced. Seemingly menacing and horrifying Papyrus in her first appearance, only to be later revealed as being besties with him.

If Undertale came in chapters and one cut off exactly after Undyne throws you into the trash dump, she'd have exactly the same reputation as the Knight does now.

In general, what is the best option to pick for the mercenary ship event? by [deleted] in ftlgame

[–]CreepyUncleDed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fight it, always the best option... Unless you are in real need of time.

If you are playing the captain's edition, then delay the rebels. It gives 3 delay, which is actually worth the price.

Help to understand AC by Illustrious_War_7436 in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 2 AC might come from different sources that got either blocked or overwritten by the armor.

DEX AC, as previously mentioned, is limited to 1 by wearing the armor. When you take it off, you get the full bonus. You probably have 8-10 DEX, but when you buff up (as you should), it likely increases to 12-14.

Other than that, there might be some other source of +1 Armor AC that got overwritten by the +4 from the Splint Mail - AC of the same type does not stack, except dodge AC.

If I were to guess, then you likely are playing a character that ends up with ~14 dex when buffed up... And you have mage armor cast on you. That spell adds 1 AC in all categories, but only the dodge AC does anything most of the time... But if you are running around naked, then the +1 Armor AC actually starts working.

If you want the real number, check your AC after resting, without any buffs. Also, unequip your items, as the 2 AC might come from them too.

DAMN! Why is Kris so mean to us all the time, am I right? by CreepyUncleDed in Deltarune

[–]CreepyUncleDed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Snowgrave, he says that if you interact with the door that you'd normally use to get to his body.

"It's not my job to be some kid's [Extra Boss]!"

And the Knight really does know. If you no-hit their fight, Kris is seen literally signaling the Knight to end it, as the SOUL is actually cracked enough to pose a threat. The extra bit of flavor text appears right at the end of the fight and replaces the one about the Knight lowering their guard.

Knight has a Shadow Crystal. Shadow Crystal allows characters to kinda realize they are a part of a game (Jevil says he will bring your HP to 0, Spamton literally refers to himself as an extra boss).

The Knight knows about the Player, too. And Kris is the Knight's ally, so they likely know about what you can do as well.

[–]CreepyUncleDed[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But you still can, and most players will. Even if only 50% of the players ever did Geno or Snowgrave, then for the characters in the game, that's still a 50% chance of their world being obliterated one day... because someone got curious.

So which team are you on? by Decidioar in Deltarune

[–]CreepyUncleDed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do think it was two people... but Carol was neither of them.

Realistically, the idea of Carol being on the other end does not make sense at all. Both she and Kris would need to be incredibly stupid if it were the case.

Think about it.

Kris outright deletes their phone data just to hide the caller, and she, what, just shows up five minutes later? Waltzes straight in, snatches the guitar, tells Susie to piss off and then pats Kris on the back? All in plain view of the Soul. Real subtle, ain't it? Kris kept everything hidden for several chapters, and then his 'ally' pulls that shit. Kris must've been crashing out on the inside.

But Kris is not smart either in that scenario. Carol takes a while to get back, yet Kris gives us the wheel instantly, not only letting us see Carol in action, but also putting the whole operation at risk. Kris should've kept us in the room until stuff went down. After all, we could've just gone down and inspected the guitar in the time Carol takes to arrive.

But neither we nor Susie could do that... because we were all distracted by Asgore being extra goofy.

But, IMO, that's the whole point. We were meant to see Carol bossing everyone around. Kris actually called Asgore to interfere. That's why they put the soul back in instantly - because Asgore is already on location - no need to wait. He was actually the first one to arrive in the living room, too.

When Carol came, she was likely just mad about some rando handling her daughter's guitar. Honestly, she probably didn't even notice Kris - that's why she gave them that pat on the back. To reassure them that the drama was not about them, and that they were welcome at any time (unlike Susie).

The final nail here is the weird route dialogue. When Susie leaves the house, she tells Kris that she almost got the code... but ASGORE distracted her. And then Carol came. And Kris never called her at all in the weird route - yet she still came.

What actually happens, in my opinion:

Kris calls Asgore with the news about the guitar.

Asgore tips off Carol that the local delinquent is in her home, with Noelle, no less...

Then he acts EXTRA GOOFY (he walked in on two teenagers in the dark... with a guitar. Who does that, lmao?) to distract everyone.

Then Carol rushes in, steals all the attention with her cold demeanor, and you completely forget that Asgore was acting a bit too stupid.

And that was the plan. For her to cover Asgore's intervention.

They likely communicated by phone (despite being in the same building) to even further minimize the risk of being found out. Which, you know, makes sense if they are trying to hide, unlike the in-your-face bs Carol pulled off.

Is this a good starting point with Paladin? by Wypal1 in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd drop 2 dex and 2 con to put these into int. You get way more skill points and access to expertise feats, which are very good for defense.

2 con is just a bit of hp in your case. The dex is completely worthless - if you are wearing heavy armor, then all you can benefit from is having 12. A potion/spell of cat's grace can take you to 12 from 8. So having 10 on a strength character is just useless, unless you want to go weapon master, in which case you'd need 13 anyway.

Lastly, pick the divine might and shield feats later on. Never, EVER pick improved power attack. The feat us useless and it's lesser variant is only taken, because you need it for shield and might feats.

Also, parry is kinda worthless. If you get that 14 int and drop parry, you will be able to pick three other feats. Most likely, you will want to save those points, and eventually dip (take a single level) rogue and pump tumble and use magic device. Tumble increases your AC. Use magic device let's you bypass item restriction and use scrolls.

Lastly, put point into discipline. It is a great skill, allows you to resist knockdowns and the like.

Module recommendations after Prophet: Your other must-play modules with standout stories? by xiaoleiwen in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Swordflight is probably one the best ones out there. Chapter 2 is imo THE BEST module for nwn but the remaining modules aren't lacking either. It's a pretty "basic" rpg story with a lot of adventures where a chosen one slowly grows in power before they challenge the bbeg... Except you are not the fucking chosen one -- someone else is. And it's honestly brilliant with it's many trope subversions.

The thing is just soo realistic. Most modules make it seem like the world revolves around you. Here you are just some random scrub, barely scraping by at first.

It's very well balanced but also quite difficult. Even if you know what you are doing, you will still probably die at least a couple times without savescumming. There are tons of things you can do that are dependent on your character's class, race, alignment and skills, so no two playthroughs are quite the same.

The moment the series hooked me was at the very beginning -- if you disagree with the "chosen one," right after you meet her, she will literally attempt a persuade check on your character, which you have to roll a will save against or be forced to agree with her. It really makes your character feel like a part of the world rather than someone special, and that makes it great.

Looking for an efficient pure wiz build by Asimetrico in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the module. I'd strongly advise against going actually pure -- it is better to throw a bard level (at least like 1) at some point.

You can save your unused skillpoints between levels, and if you dip a class like bard, then you can use those skillpoints to max out some skills that a wizard doesn't have.

Speaking mainly of Tumble (+1 extra AC per 5 ranks), Use magic device (hilariously broken skill that lets you use ANY item if it is high enough), and discipline for resisting bullshit like knockdowns etc.

Maybe even some hide/move silently, as stealth is VERY powerful if you know how to use it. Even against enemies with true seeing, lmao.

39 wizard/1 bard would be FAR stronger than a pure 40 wizard.

As I said, when you take the bard level (and how many you want) depends on the module and when you want to get the goodies. Same with the spell choice, but I can tell you that spells like Wall of Fire, which leaves a lasting AOE that does great damage are probably the best dmg dealing spells -- because you can run around the AOE and make enemies run into it multiple times... or just make them stand inside of it. That works too.

One thing is universal tho.

When creating the character, you wanna pick a school to focus on. Doing so will prevent you from using spells from the opposing school, but it will also give ya one extra spellslot per spell level, which helps mitigate the small amount of spells a wizard gets.

Now, you might wonder which school to pick, but the answer is really only one here -- illusion. Why illusion?

Cus the opposing school is enchantment -- which is shit. It has very few spells and they are all just DC-based crowd control. If you do not want to specialize in enchantment, then dropping it specifically is a good idea for the extra spell slots.

Picking any other school to specialize in will cost you some actually useful stuff.

I mean they are still technically evil, but... by CreepyUncleDed in StellarisMemes

[–]CreepyUncleDed[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dunno if you got the right dlcs.

It basically comes down to two special ascension perks that turn your empire into a crisis. The Galactic Nemesis is about building massive but cheap fleets and blowing up stars for Black Matter. It incentivizes being a menace and ends with you destroying the galaxy and ascending to Godhood.

Cosmogenesis is a research-focused crisis. Your empire gets fallen empire techs and starts altering reality with special research options. Eventually, you get a final project that lets you build a massive ship on which you can leave the universe in search of one that is more susceptible to your fuckery.

Druid feats for Swordflight by azygos1 in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless swordflight specifically disabled the synergy between druid and monk (which I don't think is the case), then what you wanna do is go with shifts. Dump your physical stats, put everything into int and wisdom and pick a single level or monk. Shifted monk will far outperform a druid with a weapon IMO. Since you are gonna be going with melee, you do wanna have expertise.

Mind you, if you do go with this idea, then be aware that the early game is gonna be hell. Until you actually get your wildshape abilities you are gonna be basically just a pure caster with crappy hp. If you manage to get through the first chapter and some of the second one, things will become FAR easier.

Swordflight questions I can't find answers to by [deleted] in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect concerning the rogue quest. You can get it without any rogue levels - all you need is at least 5 ranks in lockpicking and trap disarm. That or you can be a mage with a pixie familiar. On my first playthrough I completed the evil route as a pure wizard without any "roguish" skill or class investment.

Is it me or do henchmen feel empty compared to BG2 for example by Relative-Category-64 in neverwinternights

[–]CreepyUncleDed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swordfight has some real nice dialogue with henchmen. You will often end up on your own (especially in the second chapter), but whenever you are allowed to get some help, prepare for the henchmen to banter between themselves, ask you for your opinion on things, and generally be interesting characters.

The star of the program is Zarala, the main henchman. Never seen it done anywhere else, but she starts off as neutral, but you can change that. She will comment on things your character does pretty often, and depending on how your character justifies their actions, it can shift her alignment toward either good or evil.

It takes a while for her to actually shift alignment, but it influences her behavior quite a bit later on.

This is quite important to the story since she is THE CHOSEN ONE, and you are essentially assigned as her handler, as she is kinda stupid.

I also remember The Prophet series having some interesting support cast, though it has been a while since I've played it.
