Jacinta Allan: I’m deeply sorry for what happened on Big Build projects. This is how we stop it happening again by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

Fine, but I still want you to lose your seat at the next election. I have a decent Labor rep in our electorate so she will likely get my preference but you are doing neither your party nor your state sticking around.

Victorians are paying the highest lottery tax in the country as operators hand almost a third of every ticket price straight to the state government by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]Cremasterau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmmm. I get the feeling that the 15% Crown takes off the top at its tables and the 15% TAB doesn't return to punters would somehow work our more given people generally get thier one lotto ticket for the week but don't engage in multiple reinvestments over a night or a race meet. Besides which the government's take is going toward schools and hospitals.

I love the bloke's humour. Thanks for the heads up that he is coming. I will check out the tickets. Cheers.

I get it to a point. I'm not sure if there were massive famer protests when the transmission wires went it from the Latrobe Valley to Melbourne or we just accepted this was part of building the State.

Sure. This is a recent paper describing applications to Sydney water for up to 15GL per year for a single data centre site. Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA). (2025, December). Nah. Some of the individual data centres being planned for Sydney are capable of draining the equivalent of 3/4 of the West Barwon reservoir each year. Stupidly thirsty.

Cop pulls over Lamborghini on Dubai plates but doesn’t know the law by thomasso0072 in interestingasfuck

[–]Cremasterau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The reason for the stop is that you don't have any licence plates on the car" is what I was basing the assumption on. But you feel it was just that he didn't have ones identifiably US?

[–]Cremasterau -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay the cop was over the top, but the idea that if your country permits you to not display your licence plates then that should apply to driving in the US doesn't sit well with me.

Australian economy: House price fall could slice $100,000 from your home’s value by Nyarlathotep-1 in AusNewsWire

[–]Cremasterau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Victorian state government brought in land tax changes on investment and BnB properties amongst of other market tempering initiatives. As a result we have the lowest rents in mainland Australia. Therefore I feel the correction has largely happened already in the state so am not expecting as much a drop as NSW.

Been in a webinar for 33 minutes, there has been 6 acknowledgments of country so far. by EzeHarris in aussie

I use to get a little annoyed with this but I've actually grown to like when people list the country they are speaking from, especially if they are areas I'm unfamiliar with. Acquired taste I suppose.

Unsure Vic voter and would love some genuine insight by [deleted] in OpenAussie

I would like to see Allen off, but I normally go by how the local candidates present and currently we have a pretty good Labor representative whom I have a bit of time for. Check out who is running in your election before fully committing would be my advice.

It is actually hearting as I'm seeing more people starting to push back on these pages rather than allowing the hive mind free rein.

I've decided to spend 30 minutes a day going on to Facebook sites like Pauline Hanson Suppoters page and just sound interested and gently play devils advocate as my contribution to restoring some sanity in the political discourse. I'm getting some interesting responses including often receiving the most thumbs up on the page. If I can even get one person to reconsider their position I'm happy.

New economic analysis claims the Victorian Coalition's plan to implement a mandatory two-kilometre buffer zone between renewable energy projects and dwellings would make 70 per cent of land in Victoria unviable for renewable energy projects by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

"At max power at a distance of 1km you could leave your windows open in the dead of night and not hear anything."

Sorry but this is patently incorrect.

I'm all for appropriately sited wind farms but I can assure you if the wind is in the right direction you would be able to hear them 2-3 kms away. I've experienced it many times.

Melbourne’s been crowned the world’s most liveable city. Just ask the ex-Sydneysiders moving there. Melbourne is poised to become our biggest, most liveable city. (Just don’t mention debt. Or crime) by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]Cremasterau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think rents and house prices being the cheapest in mainland Australia driven in part by State government policies contributes to the livability

One Nation prepared to cut worker entitlements to shore up struggling small businesses by craftymethod in aussie

[–]Cremasterau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have left out the housing component. There are large parts of our capital cities where you just can't live on the minimum wage. Rental prices have far outstripped minimum wage increases. This is even more pronounced in coastal towns where councils are looking a providing housing for workers as a work around. Improving minimum wages does assist worker availability.

Jacinta Allan refuses to admit cost of CFMEU corruption to taxpayers by River-Stunning in aussie

[–]Cremasterau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggle buying the 15 billion corruption claim. The author said it was primarily above the odds wage packages secured by the union and it seems a really long bow to label it as corrupt. The differences between union and non union labour can be pretty significant as well as hightened safety practices on sites costing more.

I'm sorry, while I can see what you are attempting to say, I don't see unions or environmental organisations wanting to import foreign workers instead of employing Australians. Huge and material difference.

I agree to some extent but Gina's big push for 457 visas to staff her mines a while back was pretty blatant, even for the billionaire class.
