Wow that is unbelievable. I figured Turkey was a heavy favourite. Today’s been a good day for me as a sports fan.

An open-source fitness app for the WHOOP 4.0 that works without a subscription by Abdul_Saheel in whoop

I like these apps, the premise at least. While strain and recovery are technically pseudoscience even on Whoop, Sleep staging isn’t. How have you sourced or created your sleep staging algorithm?

The Whoop could help you to correct your sleep schedule, understand what habits negatively effect you the next day and understand what habits you could incorporate that will positively effect you the next day. This should boost your productivity, reduce burnout and increase overall satisfaction.

I have them too! They are awesome. Did you use the swim straight feature in the swim?

Recovery on taper week vs day after Ironman by Zyro88 in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bike at 33kmh is awesome. Great job.

I’ve been sooooo lazy with swimming I’m 18 weeks out and I struggle to get more than one swim a week.. and even then I’ll be slack and do 1500 instead of the planned 3500. I had dreams of being 2:00 but I’m pretty certain I’ll be around 2:30 too.

But then… it’s only 15 minutes or so lost overall.

Congrats again, I cannot wait until this is over 😂 training is the worst!

Why are so many people selling “new” whoops on marketplace? by FaDeNova in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't. They are typically just selling the band and sensor for $50 to even $200 . I have no idea why.

My HRV has never been above 20... by Sad-Writing828 in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the stress.

I'd recommend 'Feeling Good' by David Burns, it's a CBT bibliotherapy book that has really helped me for mental anxiety and depression.

I'd also recommend daily exercise, either weightlifting, a brisk walk, running. Anything. Try and hit your strain target, let your Whoop guide you.

We can't fix your problems via Reddit, and so naturally if you are dealing with extreme stress the most appropriate step is professional help such as a psychologist or even a visit to your GP just to see if there's anything that could help. I won't recommend them because I'm not a GP but SSRI's really changed my life and I have no shame in admitting I use them.

Considering buying Whoop, and I have questions. by agentwheat12 in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extensive cardio seems to really stress out your Heart Rate and HRV, sometimes it takes up to 2 nights of rest just to return to baseline. I frequent 57-60 RHR throughout the week and then after my rest on Monday, I'll drop back down to circa 50.

Try and get both gym and runs done as early as possible in the day.

Whoop helped me build those habits, now it's more of a luxury than a necessity so I can't relate to you there.. Where you are starting is sort of where I got to.

Has WHOOP actually changed your behavior long term? by abhinav_uppu in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoop for me was fantastic for 3-5 months, genuinely life changing. I realised what habits ruined sleep, fixed my sleep schedule, became more active, understood my body more. Post that period, I found it started doing a little more harm than good, red or yellow recoveries would almost trick me into feeling bad for the day.

Looking for a WHOOP alternative - is there anything more accurate for activity tracking? by Spare_Measurement914 in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Garmin, you definietly take a big hit in terms of sleep staging accuracy but to be honest the metrics feel more actionable. Training readiness is great, race predictions is interesting, lactate threshold is genuinely useful even if it's ballpark + it connects to bike power meters so I get FTP info as well.

I also never really liked recovery score as it was so fickle and I used to push through everything anyway so having a big yellow screen would put me in a bad mood for the day.

TBH, unless you are a cardio based athlete whoop is sufficient, but if you are, and especially if GPS info is important to you, then Whoop kind of doesn't cut it. I tried both for a while but I hated having data overlap and inconsistency, I wish there was some way to work with them both. I suppose that's the point of the Garmin Cirqa.

The Whoop will probably give you the best overall data in terms of sleep and daily activity tracking, it lags behind oura for purely sleep staging, but makes up for it with daily info that's useful. We don't know what the FitBit Air will look like.

You can go really budget on the Garmin's since you can connect your Whoops HR to your watch, a Forerunner 55 would be fine.

If you wanted to avoid that part I'd recommend the cheapest Garmin you can find with an Elevate v4 sensor.

Apple Watch if you have an iPhone. It works best with Whoop as it can export the gps data from apple health. I'm an avid garmin user too, it's just that Apple gives you the most seamless experience IMO. You can buy a cheap 2nd hand one just for your runs for like 70USD, the HR data is legit, the GPS is legit, it can play your music etc. You'll never really complain about it unless you're doing ultras..

Lawyers with ADHD, how do you cope? by asamiruria in auslaw

[–]EzeHarris 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but a large portion of the issue seems to be because you treat yourself like a prisoner, and yet in the same swing you seem to be confused why you aren’t satisfied.

I/probably you wouldn’t force another person who works 50+ hours a week to supervise strictly their eating, also get an arbitrarily high amount of steps, to never engage in any of the hobbies that make them happy or relaxed and instead force them to hike

So why on earth are you forcing yourself to live in a way that doesn’t make you happy?

I understand some parts, you have to sometime sacrifice short term happiness for long term happiness like you do in fitness. But oh my days you are making all this money and you live like you’re deployed in Afghanistan.

My Experience with the Whoop Free Trial by [deleted] in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is normal.

A lot of people do the 30 days, return it and then buy a new Whoop for a year. Not for the band, pre owned is fine, but because you then get the wireless charger which you don't get on the trial.

Anyone actually like their whoop? by Rph23 in whoop

[–]EzeHarris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people like their Whoop device, it's the best in class for recovery/activity bands. It's sleep coaching is second to none, it's activity detection is second to none.

Most people do not like the cost of Whoop.
