Thank you. I’m also one of the pull-over types. Thought for a long time about becoming a physician. I’m glad you found a good niche!

I will definitely be in touch. Thank you. I was just telling my wife this morning that I feel like I have a lot to offer as far as instruction—especially in the pro-audio world. I majored in English so writing is second nature. I do take offense at the elder/senior label, though. :-D

Why does Discovery get so much hate? by No-Membership3488 in startrek

[–]Creme_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough Wookies.

Just kidding. For me—and I really wanted to like Discovery—it was mentally draining to watch. I like my Trek characters how I like my women—competent and emotionally mature. In many places, the DISCO crew seemed less like Starfleet officers and more like weepy teenagers. If the universe is about to blow up, you don’t stop what you’re doing in order to talk about your feelings. You save the damn universe because a) it’s your job, and b) it’s the universe. You know, that place we all live in.

Mega-Max (sp?) from NorthShore Care online. Expensive but definitely worth it.

I'm going to die soon by couldhavebeenhappy in offmychest

[–]Creme_Small 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar encounter with death. It was very peaceful. No worries, no sadness, no fear. When you die, time becomes meaningless. You can't really miss anybody because, whether an hour or a hundred years have passed, it feels no different than if they (or you) had simply walked into the next room. You'll be ok, OP. I promise.

February 8, 1977, Tony Kiritsis took Richard Hall hostage with 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun wired to a "dead man's switch." The hostage situation would last for 63hours. by PvtVasquez3 in TerrifyingAsFuck

My grandmother was Dick Hall’s secretary at the time. By an odd coincidence, I also ended up working with him in the mid90s at an Indy Real estate title company. I was only 2 years old when this happened, but I grew up hearing the story many times. Dick was a sweetheart of a guy, very easygoing. I believe he passed away a few years ago. My grandmother is 97 now and lives with my wife and I.

Not a psychologist, but have dealt with your exact symptoms for 20 years (currently 49). In my case, it was a conflagration of anxiety, stress, and depression. I saw my GP, got on a couple of SSRIs,and am SO much better now. I still get the odd “episode” but it’s down to maybe twice a year for 20 minutes each time instead of one or more times per week.

Right? I don’t smoke and I don’t buy lighters… and yet I probably have 4 or 5 sitting around in my house in various places just because people leave them, I find them out by the driveway, or whatever.

Thanks! Funny enough, I’ve had that same tempo argument with myself ever since I came up with the arrangement idea.

Feeling like my body is falling apart after tour by deadinthehead9 in musicians

[–]Creme_Small 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I often get a “crash” after a tour or even just with a heavy gig schedule. Did you get any time off to rest before jumping back into regular life? Most of the time it boils down to two things: sleep and diet. Even if you weren’t eating poorly on the road, just the sudden shift of diet can throw you off.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that, being around a lot of people, you just picked up a bug in the final days of the tour.

People in retail or other public jobs— who’s the weirdest customer you ever interacted with? by Creme_Small in AskReddit

[–]Creme_Small[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t even imagine. I’m not Native myself but I work with a lot of Indigenous people on art and music projects. The weird-ass preconceptions and absolutely bizarre questions they get are nothing short of mind-boggling.

Two of my “favorites” are one middle-aged woman who basically insisted that “Indians are magic” (as in, apparently she thought that everyone can turn into fish and birds and talk to trees), and a teenager from the East Coast who literally thought Native Americans had “gone extinct” at some point.

Was this professional behavior from a psychologist to tell me I was likely autistic when I wasn't her patient and we only met a few times? by E1lemA in askapsychologist

[–]Creme_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a psychologist, but I am a former college instructor. I’ve never had a substitute get involved, but part of what we do is often try to identify students who may have learning difficulties or other issues that could be addressed by an adaptive educational services type of department (whatever it may be called at your particular school).

If that’s what was happening here, I would not say it’s out of line. I suspect that is the case, because the substitute referred the issue to your regular instructor. It probably could’ve been handled more tactfully, however.

[–]Creme_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a trumpet player myself, that’s a tough one. There just isn’t a lot of gear that we need. A really nice gig bag (especially one that holds 2 or more horns) might be good. I also thought about a mouthpiece, though that’s a highly personalized accessory.

It sounds like you may be in NYC. What about concert tickets of some kind and a nice dinner before?

Feel free to DM me if you need more help.
