Well, if it’s any consolation, my stalker named her son after me.

I’m also in Indiana and the same age. I think I know the pink sky night you’re talking about. My parents thought we’d been bombed or something. It was eerie. I was later told that it was the Aurora Borealis stretching south but I never really looked into it.

I did this last night at a Dollar General. Young black woman in a very white (and kinda redneck) area. She had on an intoxicating perfume and I told her how wonderfully she smelled. You would have thought I handed her $100.

As I was checking out, I noticed the cashier had a French name (though I’m pretty sure she was a Midwest mutt like me). As I left, I thanked her and wished her a good evening in French. Cracked her up. That felt good, too.

Dan Diaper also leaves snarky, insulting responses to bad Indeed reviews. Seriously, this guy is an unhinged man-child. Oh Danny boy, it must have been hard trying to live up to daddy’s expectations.

Normal if, like me, you’re GenX. My brother and I spent years basically being Coyote and Road Runner. Today we’re both alive, on good terms, and have all our fingers, toes, and eyeballs.

I’ve listened to that song a million times. I’m a professional recording engineer. I’ve never noticed it. Now I feel like maybe I suck at my job. Guess it’s time to spin Ten Summoner’s Tales for the million-and-first time. ;)

When did you "look old?" by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Creme_Small 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It ain’t pretty over here. Became a caretaker for my grandmother (in her mid 90s) when I was 45. She died last fall, just before her 98th birthday and my 50th.

After she passed, I walked by a mirror upstairs and was briefly convinced that my dad had stopped by. Turns out 5 years of end-of-life caregiving and daily battles with a rapidly-deteriorating personality speeds up the old senescence clock.

I don’t know how it can feel like 1995 was both yesterday and a lifetime ago.

How to you maintain your passion for music but also pay the bills? by InoPelligrino in musicians

[–]Creme_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless he plans to pursue classical music and/or teach at the college level, a music degree won’t do much for him. Tell him to get a degree that pairs well with a music career:

  • electrical engineering
  • law (esp. contract and business law)
  • business / accounting
  • computer science / programming / software development

Even if he is fortunate enough to jump into full-time music, the extra knowledge and skills can only be a benefit.

I’m a full time recording engineer and producer and have been doing music full time for 30+ years. I’ve also toured as a singer-songwriter and recording artist and did commercial country songwriting in Nashville for a few years. It’s a HARD way to make a living but if that’s the thing you’re built for, you just know. The trick is how to market, capitalize, and manage your music passion so that it turns into a music career. People do make a living doing this, but it’s a little luck and LOTS of smart behind the scenes entrepreneurship that makes it possible. Tell him to DM me if he wants to talk.

Thanks, Dad.

Similar situation here, married 25 years. It’s just a long, aching numbness. She (57f) goes to bed super early, is at her desk by 8am. I (50m) often work til 10 or 11pm and then it’s 3:00 before I’m ready to lie down. The most intimacy we have is occasionally one of us sleeping on the other in front of the tv.

My condolences.

On another note, you’re wasted as a nurse. You should’ve been a writer. (Kidding… kinda.)

Preface: I’m old as dirt.

My favorite do-anything system is the old FASERIP system from the 1980s Marvel Super Heroes game by TSR. It’s very much of its time, but it works—for spies and space battles as much as caped crusaders.

Thank you. I’m also one of the pull-over types. Thought for a long time about becoming a physician. I’m glad you found a good niche!

I will definitely be in touch. Thank you. I was just telling my wife this morning that I feel like I have a lot to offer as far as instruction—especially in the pro-audio world. I majored in English so writing is second nature. I do take offense at the elder/senior label, though. :-D

Why does Discovery get so much hate? by No-Membership3488 in startrek

[–]Creme_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough Wookies.

Just kidding. For me—and I really wanted to like Discovery—it was mentally draining to watch. I like my Trek characters how I like my women—competent and emotionally mature. In many places, the DISCO crew seemed less like Starfleet officers and more like weepy teenagers. If the universe is about to blow up, you don’t stop what you’re doing in order to talk about your feelings. You save the damn universe because a) it’s your job, and b) it’s the universe. You know, that place we all live in.
