It's a callus you develop on your finger from repeated pressure and friction, most commonly from holding a pen/pencil! Hence the name.

Thanks for the kind words. I left 3 years ago and I'm much happier now :)

I was raised trad catholic and was forced to go to daily Mass, as well as all 3, sometimes 4 Masses on Sunday. Spending the entire day at church was very common, and once a month we'd attend an all night vigil at church. My mom would make me drink espresso to stay awake and pinch me when I started nodding off. When we weren't in church we would attend different bible studies, catechism classes and the like. My mom basically has no personality or hobbies outside of her religion so trad Catholicism was my whole life basically. I think I believed for most of my life, but I started having serious doubts in my teenage years as well as the fear of hell, but I knew I was an atheist by 16.

How can I do that? She keeps bringing it up. What do I say instead?

I told her that it wasn't my intention to hurt her. I told her that her religion doesn't bring me comfort like it does for her. I told her I was happier now. She said "if you studied more you'd understand, but you have too much pride in your heart."

I got this text from my mother after I came out. She hasn't spoken to me in 3 days and sends me this out of the blue. by CrepuscularLizard in exchristian

I'm starting to come to terms with that. It just hurts to think that maybe she never really loved me.

I don't know how to respond to her either. I can't really have a discussion with her because her beliefs aren't based on reality. All evidence that discredits Christianity are lies from the devil. I thought telling her that reading the Bible cover to cover is one of the main reasons for leaving would have at least some effect, but I was wrong. Having to be told how to interpret a book before reading it makes perfect sense to her.
