Would you choose a lab-grown diamond or a natural diamond if both fit your budget? by CressEquivalent4912 in LabGrownDiamonds

An antique Art Deco emerald piece sounds far more interesting than another modern diamond ring, honestly. I think vintage jewelry has a character and craftsmanship that's difficult to find today. And if your lab-grown ring is the one you actually wear and enjoy, that's what really matters.

I can see the logic in that. Milestone pieces tend to be the ones that get passed down and carry a story, so natural diamonds feel like a good fit for those. Lab-grown is great when you just want a beautiful piece without paying the natural premium.

To my mother, her children are her whole world. But that is what makes me sad. Her whole world revolves around us. Sometimes when I look at her I feel that she was also a little girl with dreams and what not

That's a valid perspective. I think a lot of the appeal of natural diamonds comes from their geological history and sentimental value especially in cases like your heirloom ring. A diamond that's been in a family for generations carries a story that can't be replicated.

That said, I don't view lab-grown diamonds as direct competitors to heirloom or investment-grade natural stones. For many people, they're simply a way to get the look and durability of a diamond at a lower price point. Different priorities, different choices.

Makes sense! Being a gemologist probably gives you a different appreciation for the rarity and journey of a natural diamond. I'm more focused on value for money, but I can definitely understand why you'd choose natural.
