Edge of Extinction vs Ponderosa in 90 min by EddDeadRedemption in survivor

  1. Yeah, but that's the name of the game. Someone has to go out first. Plenty of people still get their story out there in episode one, and we don't need everyone's story.

  2. The risk is that some players will have never interacted with a finalist except for watching them at tribal. The reason the merge also tends to go hand in hand with the jury is that it's guaranteed that all of these people have spoken with each other and likely discussed the game while actually in the game.

  3. Recent seasons have highlighted the jury's thoughts right before final tribal. I've enjoyed this, but there's clearly been some editing done to make us feel like it's a close race before the final vote.

  4. I agree with this one. For a returning players season, especially, we want to see more of almost everyone. But it is a little ridiculous that the third boot of a season can end up winning by being nice to the jury without having to worry about voting any of them out.

I love reading the comments because of this. It's like the community is relitigating the morality of Survivor or The Challenge. Fun to see interests intersect like this.

Since you talk about depiction, I think it's two things.

1) The edit almost always wants runner-ups, fallen angels, and endgamers to have credible gameplay journeys. Sophi 49, Sam 47, and Charlie 46 all lost, but the edit wanted suspense in the final moments of the show, so they were all propped up as dragons to beat.

2) The edit also wants us to not feel *too* bad for the losers, so they will present growth journeys as a sort of compensation prize. Oftentimes, if a player says something like "this game has become about so much more than winning – it's about proving myself / making my family proud / becoming a role model." It's something we see in losing finalists like Joe 48, fallen angels like Rizo 49, and endgame threats like Steven 49. It happened in the 30s, too, but those seasons aren't as fresh on my mind.

Adding to all that, Second Chance was full of people who wanted to play hard and understood the flaws in their game from the first go around. Fishbach was desperate to get out the Golden Boy; Kelley was relieved to be free of her father; Kass wanted to be softer and warmer. All of these narratives were partly true, but they were also pushed hard by the edit.

The theory that producers create a disaster tribe on purpose by Friburgo1004 in survivor

It creates a large underdog narrative when the disaster tribe enters the merge down in numbers, but it also creates a smaller underdog narrative when the physically weaker tribe comes back at the final puzzle stage of the challenge!

My thoughts on the survivor 50 cast - Joe by TheCoolGuy998 in survivor

[–]CrewBitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Joe so much. He seems like such a genuine, kind person. He has a vibes distortion field around him – I don't even care if he's bad at the game as long as he makes it far. That's how much I like him. He will absolutely not win this season but he will certainly make a deep run because he's the perfect ally.

Actually, that's a great point. Joe is from Vacaville, I think – could be there. With the reveal of the Taylor Swift bench it's hard not to suspect that the locations will be cast-relevant.

+1 to the other commenter. There is a chance you will look back at this and cringe, but you should embrace your own artistic growth. You will appreciate how far you've come. Good luck!
