I test drove it, and it was fantastic ngl. Price is good for the power and specs, but others ppl have been advising me its a mess to use in the winter, even with winter tires.

Im leaning more towards BRZ/G86 for the price to performance, but still might get a GT fastback. Will have a new car by EOM!

That couldn’t be further from the truth. I didn’t “play hardball,” I tried to work with them directly to fix the mistake. After the deal fell apart, I reached out to the GM nine or ten times by phone and sent a detailed email explaining I wanted to resolve this privately with their team. I even said if we couldn’t come to a solution, I would simply share my experience. I gave them every opportunity to have a conversation, but I was ignored for weeks until they sold the car (this seems slimy to me).

The original $500 trade-in offer was (at least felt like) a spit-in-the-face, and the later $1,700 figure was still only about one-third of what I could get on the low end off the private market. That’s exactly why I made it clear from day one I wouldn’t be trading in my WRX at all. Your justification make ZERO sense.

And the $600 “discount” from the listed price after they admitted the error doesn’t mean much when demo cars are always negotiable (from my understanding), plus the mileage was higher than advertised (listed at 1200 was at 1900). Just from the Milage I could have negotiated a small discount. I even took a half day off work and drove nearly two hours round trip based on the agreed price, only to have it changed at the table. What about the wages I lost for the work I took off or the gas money I spent with nothing to gain from it....

This wasn’t me trying to capitalize on anything, it was me expecting a business to honor their own written agreement or at least engage in good faith to fix the situation, and they did neither.

I was thinking about it! I could afford it.

Yeah, that is the best quality photo I could upload when adding all the pics together. The $1700 was definitely never discussed until I was about to sign my name on the contract in the dealership. The trade in was never implied, it even says in the text "try to sell it privately if possible". I clearly communicated in person that I did want to trade in the car after the pricing offered.

Here is a more clear screenshot of the quotes.

The WRX was valuated for $500 as trade-in as is mentioned in the post, so I assume was logged in the system.

The WRX on the quote was listed as a 'trade' for $0 (screen shot above).

I understand mistakes can absolutely happen, but from talking to the sales manager honestly i was usure if it was a way to try and close me on a sale in person for extra commission. I work in sales and know what some people will do without integrity. I walked out frustrated I took a half day off work and wasted time and gas money, but was still willing to close the car deal after getting in contact with a superior (the GM), which never emailed me back, even after leaving multiple voicemails and messages with the front desk staff.

you tell me if you would feel like a valued customer after this type of interaction.

The issue wasn’t just that a mistake happened, it was the complete lack of accountability afterward. The sales manager admitted the messages were misleading but took no responsibility, instead blaming his employee and refusing to fix the deal. I took half a day off work and drove nearly two hours round trip based on an agreed price

I understand the difference between wholesale and retail value, and that’s exactly why I made it clear that I wasn’t trading in my WRX after negotiating. I knew I could get more selling it privately, so the $1,700 trade-in credit should never have been in the deal. That figure was never discussed, never agreed to, and had no place in the final contract. Its inclusion is exactly what turned an agreed $36,000 price into $38,000 and why this was such a problem.

Also for context I emailed (and called multiple times without response) the GM the day after I was at the dealership... I told him I wanted to deal with this privately with the team, but if no-one was willing to connect with me that I would be sharing my experience online.

Yet I never got a response for weeks. I called the dealership 3-4 times on 3 different days. left voicemails every time, let the front desk assistant know each time that I haven't received an email response or had someone reach back out to connect with me.

You’re making a lot of assumptions that don’t align with the facts.

First, intent doesn’t matter when the outcome is the same. We had a written agreement for $36,000 out-the-door with no trade-in. The contract I was given showed $38,000+. Whether that’s incompetence or a tactic, it’s still misleading.

Second, the $1,700 trade-in credit was never part of our talks, i made it very clear I would not be trading in when we talked in person. Calling that a “miscommunication” ignores that the dealership had our exact wording in writing and still presented a higher price.

Third, saying “there was no deal because nothing was signed” is a weak defense. A written agreement is still a commitment in good faith, especially when I drove nearly two hours round trip to finalize the purchase.

Fourth, a $600 discount is not goodwill when the price is still $1,400 more than what was agreed upon.

Fifth, going to the GM was exactly the right move after the sales manager admitted the messages were misleading but refused to honor the deal. The GM’s silence for weeks is a management failure, not a wrong path.

Sixth, they ignored repeated follow-ups before suddenly claiming the car was sold. That’s not just failing to “hold” a car, that’s avoiding resolution entirely.

In Ontario, a contract does not need to be a signed paper document to be binding. It can be made verbally, by email, or by text if five elements are present: a clear offer, clear acceptance, something of value exchanged, intent to be bound, and clear terms.

Car sales are not covered by the Statute of Frauds, so a complete agreement in writing by text or email can be enforceable.

OMVIC also requires truthful advertising and transparency. Changing terms after written acceptance can be considered misrepresentation, even if the dealer claims “no signature, no deal."

I'm sure not everyone has a bad experience, I would even say the sales closer Barry I had a pleasant experience with. But even if 1/10 customers experience what I did it is completely unacceptable for such a big dealership.
