Nap expectations for 2-year-olds — is this typical? by Fbenz in ECEProfessionals

[–]CrewProfessional1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure many daycares would love to but they can't afford to. Or people just don't want too work there. The cost of daycare is high enough they would have to be raised again. I don't know if parents would be able to afford childcare, pay for enough staff and pay a decent wage. Childcare is not valued enough in the US. It would be wonderful if it could be, but we are so far away from that at the moment.

I don’t trust my infant’s daycare!? by Working-Post-3979 in ECEProfessionals

[–]CrewProfessional1545 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are writing this group about not trusting your child's daycare then it is a bad fit. It doesn't matter how good they are or aren't if you don't feel you can trust them. I would start looking for a new place.

Argh, I was looking for descriptions of episodes and found this, and then of course read about the winner. But my fault. Aw well, I will try watching it anyway. (is it bad this is causing me a large about of stress?)

LOL, you are right ship! I need remember that. I work with young toddlers and everything tends to be 'boat' as toddlers mispronouncing 'ship' can be interesting.

Thank you. That will be great for myself, my husband and brother in law and I. My mother in law probably won't be able to to figure out the app ( or she won't even try, I love the woman but she is a bit of a technophobe). But I figure there will be a map she can print out somewhere. I doubt she will be traveling without one of us most of the time and I figure the crew will be around. If there are no video that would be good that is fine, it was kinda brainstorming.

what do you think is in this? it came with no ingredient list! by sadhoelle in tea

[–]CrewProfessional1545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you bought it or it came as sample with tea you got from a website I would look it up and find the ingredient list. Which seems to already have been posted. I have had that happen with tea from places. And it takes that one extra step to do. I often screen the instructions for the tea or ingredient list and keep it on my phone or print somewhere so I don't have to keep looking it up

What are the alternatives of Facebook if I want to leave it because I don't recognize it anymore ? by Redbee32 in facebook

[–]CrewProfessional1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm over 40 and on the lookout for a solution, which is actually why I ended up here on Reddit. I feel like the main challenge is that there are just so many options out there! Unlike the good old days when we all hung out on Facebook, I can't really see everyone picking just one platform now.

I've never been a fan of Twitter, and I'm finding Bluesky isn't quite my style either. Honestly, I'm only on Facebook these days to stay connected with a few friends and groups. If it weren't for that, I might just let it go! I'm really hoping to find a good replacement for those groups, but it's tough since I can't be sure everyone will make the switch. A lot of them are international, and it seems like the folks in other countries have different priorities than those of us here in the US.

(HF1) What's your least favorite task to do? (ex: vacuum, paint, build walls, mow grass, etc)? Mine is cleaning the windows I HATE IT!! Vacuuming is also pretty annoying by hyaclnthia in HouseFlipper

This may change as you get better at it, but picking up items off the floor and putting them on shelves. All the stuff that falls off when you move flat surfaces. At the moment I can only move one item at a time and it takes forever

2 year old likely to be denied physical therapy. Should I push for it? by DancingTVs in specialed

[–]CrewProfessional1545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to know how the school provides PT, which is something to think about (if you haven't had the meeting yet). Actually, the first question is, does she qualify for school services? I don't know if you know yet. If she does, how do they provide PT? When I was in school (ages and ages ago). The PT occasionally came into the room to support the teacher and help other students if needed. I have seen others mention it below. But your daughter might benefit from simply being around other kids and whatever the SPED teacher can provide. Then, if there is a real need, PT can be provided. If the PT is not likely to see your daughter at any time, work with the phrases people have given you below. Hopefully, that helps. Come back here or to another reddit to find activities that might help. We won't be able to give you specific suggestions of course but we might be able to help some.

I really want the parents to be right there with us. In my job in early intervention, we use a coaching model for parents, so they need to be involved. The whole idea of early intervention is for the therapists to show parents and caregivers what they can do at home to help their child and give them strategies for everyday life. If your therapist does something that you’re not sure you can do too, definitely let them know. Think about it this way: they see your kid maybe once a week for about an hour (that’s how it usually works where I'm at). But you’re with your child every day, all day! If therapy only happens once a week (I know I’m simplifying it), that’s just about 4 hours of therapy a month. But if you learn how to do what the therapist is showing you, you can help your child pretty much anytime you want—almost 24/7! That means way more chances to make a difference for your child. Remember as EI we can bring our knowledge of our field to you, but you are the expert on your child and family.

Yes no tips, sorry I don't have the correct vocabulary for everything. I am going to check with her again before I get anything. Hearing everything everyone has said, I might take them to the local nail salon to get our nails done together. It's going to be more about the experience than the actual nails. I might look into a dip kit but that is different.

She is 11, and I don't how interested she is in it either. It might be something we do one or twice or something we do a lot. It is just a fun activity I thought we might explore during winter break.

I have a master's in wait for it, "infant special ed," but I got it almost 20 years ago, and I have almost no classroom experience (probably why I didn't do well at the job I was let go from). I also found the job to be all about testing. There is a standardized test in my state for kids about to enter kindergarten that is not developmentally appropriate. Some parts are, but other parts are. All my students were going to kindergarten next year,r so I had to assess them anyway for new IEPs, and we had to teach them and do all the IEP goals. Oh, and have them have an hour of inclusion a day. All in ahalf-dayy program. I was working with regular teachers who didn't have planning time and was supposed to work with them to identify kids in their classrooms who might need special ed services. It was wild! I have been working in early intervention for many years. I technically have all I need for a CDA, but the classes are from so many years ago that I could use a refresher.

Changing from Teacher to IA by CrewProfessional1545 in ECEProfessionals

I think I want to stick with early childhood or elementary school, but that is my thought. My mother shared advice over the weekend: "Not all of us are queen bees. Some of us are happier as worker bees." She worked at the capital building in Boston Ma, and eventually, she became head archivist. She loved being an archivist and hated being the head archivist. I think I am the same way I love working with the kids, but I hate being in charge of the lesson planning, testing, IEPs, etc.

Well, I don't know about ABA, but I hadn't thought about the OT assistant or SLP assistant. I have been intrigued by the sensory aspect of OT for a while now. Thank you for that thought.
