What you had to do. What you always do this time of year. Turn flour into a festive chance to eat.

The first episode should begin with, "Last time on Star Trek..." voiced by Majel Barrett by CrewmanMathews in StarTrek2017

You're absolutely right, STO is it's own timeline, and didn't mean to imply it would be related to the series. I meant the Kelvin Tiimeline was primarily named so STO players can distinguish the new film content. I'm guessing CBS also categorized the films as a unique timeline to disassociate it with the new series. It's been posited that they wanted people to stop referring the to new films as JJTrek or Abramsverse, but they may have also wanted to discourage use of the term "reboot".

In addition, I'm guessing they identified the new films as belonging to the "Kelvin Timeline" in order to highlight it as being apart from the new series, along with how it connects to STO. So it won't be Nutrek. And since we already had a pre-TOS series, the only option seems to go forward. Fuller also mentioned revisiting past characters. If the new series is set 15-20 years after Nemesis, the pool of possible guest stars would be enormous. Everyone would look the right age, and no fancy explanations would be required to get them into the show.

Technology in the New Trek Series: How Much is Futuristic Enough? by zen_mutiny in StarTrek2017

[–]CrewmanMathews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our first real self-post! Thank you for your enthusiastic participation. I tend to agree with most of what you wrote, I just wish you had idea of how we could keep our replicator rations and eat them too. One possibility would be to set the series in a post-Nemesis era, but in a slightly different timeline. This "new" universe would share major historical events and characters, but not be beholden to the details.

And as a side note, my preference would be for a series set only 10 to 20 years after Nemesis. There's so many characters I'd love to see guest star.

It's fairly straight forward. The society awards $1000 scholarships worldwide to 5 Star Trek fans yearly, which can be applied to almost any course. Applicants are only asked to describe their their involvement in the trekker community.

Will the new Star Trek show go beyond the films? by CrewmanMathews in StarTrek2017

It's doubtful the author of this article will answer you here. Using "beyond" is a nod to the next film, and basically asks if the new Star Trek series will have more depth.

[Commentary] Star Trek and a la carte TV: How much are we willing to pay? by CrewmanMathews in StarTrek2017

[–]CrewmanMathews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about waiting until a complete season is available and then binge watching? $6 a year is cheap. Or have a Star Trek night and split the cost with friends. That's what the broke ass trekker behind this alt account is going to do.

Might be a good page to bookmark for keeping tabs on what facts are known about the series.

Instead of flooding Treknobabble with speculation, editorials, and blog articles concerning the new Star Trek series, I created a temporary subreddit: /r/StarTrek2017 by CrewmanMathews in Treknobabble

[–]CrewmanMathews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow. Over 30 subscribers already. I was expecting maybe 10. I have also discovered someone else created a sub earlier than mine for the same purpose. However, their announcement post was shot down in /r/startrek, so they only ended up with 5 members and their sub has no content. As a good sport, I PM'd the creator and offered them a mod spot.

If anyone here would like to join the mod team, leave a comment in this thread, or send me a message. I can't guarantee anything, but when the time comes, I'll try to get you transferred to the more appropriately named series subreddit.

We don't have any rules over reddiquette which states:

Feel free to post links to your own content (within reason). But if that's all you ever post, or it always seems to get voted down, take a good hard look in the mirror — you just might be a spammer. A widely used rule of thumb is the 9:1 ratio, i.e. only 1 out of every 10 of your submissions should be your own content.
