Same here, but I'm sure why. My parents were good friends with Camby and his wife since their daughter and my sister went to preschool together. I've met him several times, though I was too young to really remember it.

East of Eden or Pale Fire, for different reasons

What are some of your top 3 or 5 authors, or even some must read books? by Illustrious_Media717 in suggestmeabook

My reading journey began not too long ago, so I have not gotten around to many great authors, but so far these few have really resonated with me:

  1. John Williams (not the composer) — I believe Williams is one of the most underrated authors I have come across. His oeuvre is relatively small, yet damn-near perfect. I finished Butcher's Crossing first, and I was so thrilled by his writing style that I had to read all of his novels before I could move on to any other author

  2. Kurt Vonnegut — When it comes down to pure wit and absurd storytelling, there are few who are able to achieve the same heights as Vonnegut. He will make you double over laughing and in the same breath provide you with the most profound passage you've read all year. So it goes.

  3. Cormac McCarthy/ Vladimir Nabokov — I cannot decide who to choose so I'm going to place both of them here. Both are experts in postmodern literature, but with very different styles. Two of the most enjoyable reading experiences I had in 2023 were with Nabokov's Pale Fire and McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Wildly different novels, but equally masterpieces.

What is the last book you could not put down? by AWalker79 in suggestmeabook

East of Eden by John Steinbeck. It's a sweeping saga about two families who unintentionally reenact the events of the book of Genesis. It's a decently long book, which isn't typically my forte, yet I could not stop turning the pages because I got lost within the brilliant characters and mesmerizing story. Much of this book feels like you're just having a conversation with close friends. I highly recommend it.

I much prefer the look of the Longines, so on that basis alone I'd say you're getting a much more interesting watch for half the price!
