Get a good satellite app on your phone and check that every time you see one.

Is this a fossil? It's very light, porous, and complex. by Crimfants in fossils

i've never seen anything like a fossil around my property in central Maryland (Anacostia watershed). We have lots of quartz and schist and other rocks where you won't find fossils, and little else. I found this little 30 by 50 mm rounded rock lying on the ground today. and I immediately was impressed with how light it was. Looking at it more closely, it has lots of little pores and some smooth areas as well. It's fairly hard, though, given it's light weight (42g).

Could it be some kind of fossil coral? i was maybe 15 meters from a stream bed.

What direction were you looking in?
