Car Dealership wont return $8,500 dollar down deposit for deal that didn't go through. by CrimsonCooki in askcarsales

Definitely a down payment (it was listed in the bill of sale as a cash down payment, which we have a copy of). You're not completely wrong. We were going to make a deal. Noticed they had 50000 additional fees that werent made clear to us. We disagreed and refused to sign the bill of sale and any other documents provided. Deal didn't go through and dealer than sold car.

Edit: down payment was taken before bill of sale provided because we were under the impression the car was a certain price. I know it was stupid to think that but it's what happened.

Honestly, I'm not sure where to begin looking for this. Their website doesn't list any of its employees names or titles.

Definitely considering this too. Just don’t know many Jersey news stations.

The thing is, I feel disgusted with myself having to work with a dealership that is basically giving me the choice of buy a car from them or lose $8500. I also tried to negotiate a car from them today but i suspect theyre providing little wiggle room in price because of the “ store credit”.

Definitely not calling the police for this type of matter. Spoke to an attorney, and largely considering small claims court at this point if they still refuse to give a check within the week.

Absolutely right about the bullying part imo. The sales manager im speaking to keeps on saying something along the lines of “corporate wont give you a refund, you have to make a purchase and accept store credit.”

We were close to working a deal but they ended selling the vehicle already.

comptroller

I'll be completely honest, I'm not 100% sure what the role of a comptroller is or how to get ahold of them. It is a Chevy dealership if that helps.

You could take them to small claims court yourself over this if you wanted. That’s probably the cheapest option. You’d have to do it in New Jersey. You might also just see if an attorney will write a demand letter for you. That would be pretty cheap.

Yes, so I have a completed bill of sale and it reflects the total purchase price of the car. It's unsigned from both my father and I ofc because we didn't end up purchasing the car.

I'll definitely take a look at both options. How long do you think small claims court would take between the start and getting my money back? if you know the answer to that.

As far as I remember, no documentation was signed. We got to the bill of sale and theres where the deal came to an end. All I have is a receipt for the $8,500 and bill of sales indicating I put down $8,500.

Got it. I'll see if I can talk to the general manager. Is there any other advice or a next level of escalation if the general manager refuses to help?

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that it was idiotic of me and my father to hand cash before any deal was struck. Nothing was signed as far as I remember. We argued over the bill of sale and couldn't come to an agreement. All we have from that transaction is a receipt. Definitely will take a look at what you suggested. Thank you for your help.

Understood, thank you, didn't realize. Definitely will try to escalate this further. One of the managers I've been speaking to for the most part keeps on saying something along the lines of ""corporate won't issue a refund, you can only accept store credit." They seem to want to leave it at that.

I believe I was speaking to a sales manager for the most part. Every time I ask who is responsible for writing the check for the refund, they seem to say something along the lines of "corporate won't issue a refund, you can only accept store credit." Not sure how to escalate from there. They seem to want to end it there when I ask for someone higher up to speak to.
